    How-to: D700 Firmware Update A 1.03, B 1.02

This update resolves an issue that, in very rare cases, caused images to be extremely under-exposed.

Here's how to update your D700 to the latest firmware:

Power the camera from AC adapter unit or use a fully charged battery.
    1. Create a new folder with an appropriate name on your computer's hard drive.
    2. Download the Windows (.EXE) or Macintosh (.DMG) file from the links at the bottom of this page to the folder created in step 1.
    3. Run the downloaded file to create a folder called D700Update which contains the firmware D700_0103.bin file.
    4. Use a card reader or similar device to copy the D700_0103.bin file to the root directory of a formatted memory card.
    5. Insert the memory card into the camera's memory card slot and turn on the camera.
    6. Select Firmware version from the camera's setup menu and follow instructions displayed to upgrade the firmware.
    7. *If the D700 B firmware is already version 1.02, "1.02” will be displayed for both “Current” and “New”.
    8. After the upgrade is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
    9. Access the Firmware version item in the camera's setup menu to confirm that the firmware has been upgraded.

I'm sorry for the ignorance, but if my A & B both show 1.02, does that mean I need to update?

    Thanks.

Not sure you "have" to, but it wouldn't hurt. Try to find out from Nikon support site what you would gain. I'm not sure if I did make this latest update... and I'm still shooting good.

I just tried to update my D700 FW, but was unsuccessful. Both current FW versions are 1.02.

Do I need to update to 1.03 first? Or should I just contact Nikon?

You have to follow the directions for updating FW to the letter! Otherwise it won't work. There are no shortcuts to updating firmware.

OK. I'm now updating 1.02 to 1.03 and the update is progressing.
