@mikew, It is a BEAST... I pick up mine after using my Z6 and it feels like a ton... and the shutter sound is loud. I love mine for landscapes, but it does sit more than it should.

Gosh I really love my D700. IMO it encapsulates everything great about the Nikon SLR era.

Also, I think it renders skin tones better than just about any digital camera I have worked with. If you do any portrait photography at all...I would go ahead and pick it up just to have it for THAT purpose.

It is amazing that such a remarkable camera is going for so cheap nowadays.

If you had one already and you didn't like the weight, it hasn't gone on a diet since then..
Nikon is going through some tough times and maybe tanking, the panic has set in with some users selling off their Nikon gear.
Me i still shoot with a D2h, x, D700, D3 and sometimes my D1x.
I would like a D4s but money is tight so happy with what i have.

  1. Old thread, I know!

While I don't use my D700 much anymore, I do still get it out now and then, primarily when I'm going to be taking portraits that I won't crop much, if any at all.

It is still a very good camera for me, but were I getting in the game today, I'd likely pass unless I needed it for a specific purpose. I'd try to save my money for a more recent release. That being said, I wouldn't sell mine because I couldn't get someone to pay me what it's still worth to me. Unless things change, were I to get rid of one of my cameras in a trade for a new one, I'd likely trade my D750 for a D850, or whatever replaces the D850. Or more likely, I'd give the camera to one of my children, since there's still plenty of life in it.
