EN-EL4a in a D700/D300?

I use 8 AA NiCad's in the MB-D10 battery packs for my D700/D300. I have a battery holder that holds a Nikon battery instead of the AA's. The battery for the D700 and D300 is the EN-EL3a but I thought I have heard that the EN-EL4a could be used as well for longer life and higher frame rate. Can anyone confirm this?

I have the EN-EL4a adaptor for my D700 grip. I don't have the battery, but I've thought about getting one as it increases fps over the EN-EL3a, but no more than AA's do, apparently

So the holder for the EN-EL4a is different from the EN-EL3a?

I haven't tried it myself! Though I likely would have if I hadn't blew so much on the D4 batteries and charger for the D800E grip! Ouch!!!lol :D

She''l do 8 FPS with the en-el4A battery in the MB-D10 need diff holder and cover....easily purchased cheaply on the big auction site.

I also believe Nikon claims close to 3000 shots with the upgraded combo.....not an issue IMHO as the D300 never runs out of juice.

This is the adapter for the MB-D10 for the EN-EL4a battery i have in mine. You can see how this differs from the regular EN-EL3 tray. The two lugs in the EN-EL4a fit into the holes in the adapter

I am now using this setup with my D700 and D300s and so far it works great! I get 8 frames per second and I expect to get a lot longer run time too! I am using Nikon batteries from china so the are likely grey market, but they seem to be good quality and are less than a 1/3 the cost at $30 per battery! lol :)

I have no long term info yet, since I just got this setup completed yesterday. But feel free to ask questions and I will try to answer them.:)

I've thought about going this route myself, I have a charger just need batteries and the BL3 adapter. However I also have 4 enel3 and I have not yet run into an issue needing more. However having one last over 3000 shots would probably get me more interested shortly enough.

The one other thing is the big jump in speed of your D700 from 5 frames per second to 8 frames per second. Not a big need for me, but a nice perk for those just in case I want it type things. Lol :)

Though I am hoping for good results in battery time, even with my Nikon batteries from China. They are only $30.00 apiece, and would help make my upgrade much more affordable. I will try to update my opinion on these batteries after some time in use. :)

You don't really get the jump in speed per second with that battery in the grip. The AA tray will give you the speed or the en-el4a battery. Trust me, that your D700 has much more speed to explore by either the AA tray or the en-el4a batteries. :)

I used the mb-D10 battery grip with the en-el3e battery on my D700 until I bought these en-el4a batteries and bl-3 battery door covers. :)

I get my jump in speed with the mdb10 and the enel3e... so it's not so much the speed I would be looking for.
