trouble with CF card and Mac

Hello all!
I need help!! Big time HELP! Okay I use a macbook pro, late 2011 Model my camera D700. I had a shoot, I went to put image on the MacBook Pro and the card reader showed connected via power light but it would not read the CF Card. I tried a few other cards, and nothing. Still would not connect the card. Thinking, it was the card reader, I bought a new one. Same thing! Knowing MAC can be picky, I put the card in camera and I get CHA error, stating the card can not be used, try another card. Huh, I think. So I try another card, same thing. Now I have checked usb ports for MAC, they are good, hardrive mounts. And even if it was bad it would not explain why every card I own can now not be read by my camera either. None of my cards can be mounted and seen on computer or camera. What is going on? Any ideas or help??

Can you format a card in the camera or Computer? Or will it not even let you get that far along? Were all you cards stored in the same place where they might have come close to a magnetic source or heat?

If yes the you might try buying a new card to see if that solves the problem.

That's it for me. Fresh out of ideas.

No it won't let me do either as far as formatting goes, not that I want to do that because I have images from a recent shoot on two of them. I did not store them in the heat or anything, it is almost as if the card reader corrupted all of them, if that is possible.

Do you have a USB cable, maybe try connecting the camera with the card in it to your Mac.

Only thing i can think of is that all your cards could be affected by some virus thus not allowing you to access them..
Or all your cards were in the same place and somehow, maybe accidentally damaged by impact or weather conditions..

2 suggestions - buy a new card; try on another system...

am pretty sure there would be nothing wrong with the D700

I would not think so but something really smells.

I have actually been in Kileen, TX. My son was MI and was stationed there for several years when he was not in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Try connecting the D700 directly to your Mac. I had a problem with picky card readers on my Dell laptop and just started connecting the camera directly to the laptop. It has always worked like a champ. I just copy and paste the files from the camera to the hard drive. My desktop has a built in CF card reader and that has always worked flawlessly.

With my Mac airbook, I have to restart the laptop first before it can detect "any" USB type of connection.

Let's step back to the basics. What version of OS X are you using? Is your system up-to-date? How are you connecting the reader: USB (2 or 3), firewire, thunderbolt?

Has this combination worked in the past? If so, have you recently installed anything on your Mac?

There's probably nothing wrong with the laptop. As stated, the memory cards no longer work in the camera which is why the computer isn't recognizing them. I hate to say it but it sounds like there may be a problem with the camera. I suppose it could be the old card reader. I would buy a new, inexpensive card and use it the camera and see if it gets corrupted like the others. If not, then try it out in the new card reader connected to your laptop. If that works ok then it could be the old card reader.
