If you need a 100 dollar doorstop or a bookend go ahead and get it. If you're going to use it to take pictures, get something else like the Nikon 70-300mm VR version.

Well that's honest lol but it all boils down to money and patience as I haven't the money for a real good one and I haven't got the patience to wait so its a catch 22 situation, but advise taken, best wishes Brian.

From what i have seen about it it may stand well on your D70 but you could find your not happy with it on a higher MP camera,i think the Tamron is better the one with built in stabilizing
Tamron 70-300mm is a much better buy but over twice as dear as the Nikon AF 70-300 f/4.0-5.6 G Black Zoom Nikkor Lens which said it all thanks again Brian.

Have you looked at Nikons 55-300mm? I hear good things about it, not far off the VR 70-300 and VC 70-300 Tamron and from reviews I've read I assume it is better than the 70-300G.It is a DX lens but unless you plan on buying a FX body in the future that won't be an issue.

Hi, mikew said from what he had read about the Nikon AF 70-300 f/4.0-5.6 G Black Zoom Nikkor Lens
it could stand well on my Nikon D70 others say no better than a book stop and on a other forum there were loads that said it was cheap looking trash that should never be allowed outside the box it came in.

But they had all bought one and all agreed it had no right to be this good at the low price, so in two days time I will be the proud owner of a Nikon AF 70-300 f/4.0-5.6 G Black Zoom Nikkor Lens good or bad which means nothing coming from me who thinks my AMIGA 1200 is the best computer ever built lol thanks to all, Brian.

The Amiga 1200 was the best computer ever built(at the time),used one for linear editing and overlaying graphics on my wild life vids but that was a long time ago, remember i only said could ;) be ok on a 6mp D70.

And you did say could be my friend lol certainly not holding any one responsible if its no good but a lot do like it,

and as for the Amiga 1200, mine surfs the Net and plays Beatle Tunes all day and multitasks with the best and I would not swop it for that piece of over priced junk they call the PC oops mustn't start a row with the pc folk, best wishes Brian.

oops forgot to ask mikew How well did your Amiga perform all them years ago, did it do well, was it quick enough for photo work and which model did you use and don't tell me it was the Amiga 500 lol even though I hope it was, sorry about all the questions but I get quiet excited about the Amiga, best wishes Brian.

Without going into the attic i think its a 1200A but not sure,it was before digital photography was with the masses and the time of Hi8 video so it wasn't used for the actual editing,i did gen locking mainly with it,adding titles speech boxes and scene wipes, its that long ago i wouldn't know how to do it now.

Wow I am impressed as I had not heard of the Amiga until about 10rs ago and I am
quite sure mum and dad could not have afforded one back then but my friend gave me his and said it was junk and I spent hundred's of pounds on it bringing it back to life and when one day it burst in to life woa was i impressed and hooked for life lol and just before I stop rambling on, the A1200 that might be, and is sitting in your loft is now fetching between £150 and £200 and some times more as they are getting hard to come by lol any way nice to have spoke with a x Amigan best wishes Brian.

I would advise not going with the non-VR 70-300 Nikkor. It's not a good lens, and ultimately I suspect you would be disappointed. Maybe a used VR version of either the Nikkor or Tamron would be available in your price range? These two are MUCH sharper.

Hi I have to agree with you as don't expect it be any where near top of the range but after checkingout used price of the ones mentioned they are still too expensive for me but I can send the Nikon AF 70-300 f/4.0-5.6 G Black Zoom Nikkor Lens back after it arrives if it no good at all but thanks for the warning, Brian.
