Hi all, new to the group. I have a D610 and have a Sigma 150-500 zoom lens that I bought second hand, however, the lens will not auto focus on my body, but I tried it on my mates 610 and it works fine, all my other lens work fine including another Sigma lens, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Simon

If your Sigma is the APO 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM and the serial number is between 10674301 and 10972000 it's a known issue and you will need to contact Sigma regarding a free repair.

Thanks Paul, but unfortunately it isn't in that range and also works fine on my friends D610.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

Check and see what if you have loaded a later update on your camera than your friends camera update status. If so, then you will need to get the lens firmware updated by Sigma. Any time you update the firmware on a Nikon camera, you run the risk of creating issues with third part hardware. If your friend were to run the latest update on their camera, I would bet the lens will quit working on their camera!

You may also be able to downgrade your cameras firmware. see https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4187938

This is what I'm wondering. Please check the firmware of both bodies. Maybe they aren't the same.

Thanks Bikerbrent , I checked the firmware, he was running 1.02 , I was on 1.04. however, I have now had the firmware on mine downgraded to 1.02 and the lens still doesn't work. Not sure what to do next, I guess send the lens to Sigma, or buy a Sigma docking station and try and sort it myself.

Thanks

Dont think the Dock would work with the 150-500.

Dock doesn't work. Could be a contact issue on your body so try cleaning the contacts on the body to make sure they are mating up correctly. The 150-500mm is a heavy lens and could pull away slightly breaking contact if it's not supported correctly. If it's working on your friend's D610 and not yours then it's likely not the lens firmware, but you never know. If cleaning the contacts doesn't work then I would contact Sigma and see about sending it in for a firmware upgrade.

Also you might try checking Live View to see if it focuses there. When there are firmware issues some things work and some things don't, and differences between Live View and thru the viewfinder are very common, as are inconsistencies between bodies. I'm guessing it's the lens firmware and, alas, that big one requires sending in. At least the fix and return shipping are free from Sigma. Bad news is that you're shipping from across the pond. Perhaps they have somewhere in the EU that you can send it?
