D600 Setting? File size less than 4mg? Raw file, edits LR, export JPG.

I shoot RAW, edit in LR and sometimes PSE. I export to JPG but after some user fiddling on D600 my jpgs are less than 4 mg without any cropping. Dimensions are still 6014x4014. I sell stock photos and file size min is 4 mg. I've checked every setting...FX vs DX, Lossless Compression, 12 bit vs 14 bit.

Anyone?? Do I reset to factory? I've tested on LR at home and office. I've tested in PSE at home and office. Seems isolated to camera. Yet RAW files come out at 24 mg.

First... You can determine the 3 different files sizes in JPEG in the camera... 2 of the 3, are over 4M...

Second... Can you post/list all of the Export parameters in LR that you're using... If you select "Output Sharpening" = Screen... regardless of the image size and pixels, you will get an image less than 1M...

Set your parameters for 250dpi and output sharpening for Printer...if you want big Jpegs

4Mb sounds about right for a 24Mpix JPEG at 90% quality. I just checked one of mine (16Mpix) and it was 2.8Mb.

JPEG does some serious compression, especially when you lower the quality below 100.

check your camera to make sure image quality is set for raw. Take a shot and import to lr. File info should be nef 6016 x 4016. Export file (jpg), properties for the file should show 6016 x 4016 file size (mb) will vary depending on photo detail. Imo a setting has changed in camera or lr.

thanks for responses. I feel something has changed in the last week and yes I was going through my cam settings before a shoot.

I am a newb and can't post pics.

Cam settings: RAW, uncompressed

LR Qual 100
sRGB resize unchecked
Sharpen for screen high

I think it's camera but still makes no sense since they come into pc at 20+mg RAW images. Ive tested home pc and office and same size after export.

Shutterstock min requirement is 4 mg. So if I crop heavy my images are not gonna make it. Yet pixels are still 6016x4016 after export. Should I reset factory settings on d600?

I suspect your export settings are to blame.

I opened a raw file from my D750 and checked: It measures 6014 x 4014 pixels and is just under 30MB.

Once that same file was exported to .JPG using Photoshop (no edits) at maximum quality, the file was just under 18MB; or about 60% of the original file size (in MB, obviously).

You can check the RAW/JPEG file sizes for the D600 here:

Nikon | Imaging Products | Specifications - Nikon D600

RAW is between 20-29Mb, JPEG depends on several factors. Set JPEG to fine/large for max quality on cam.

I don't really understand the Shutterstock issue. If your JPEG is too small to upload, check if they allow TiFF and export/upload in that format.

JPEG FILE SIZE WILL VARY (MB). LOOK AT THE DIMENSIONS (6016 X 4016) = 24+ Mpix this is what what they use for processing photos. Example 2000 x 2000 = 4 Mpix file size would be around 1-2 Mb's.
