D610 Memory Buffer Issue

Hi guys, I've been using my D610 for about two years now and it's been great, but I have a problem I just noticed and for the life of me I can't figure it out, that's why I came here. So when I use any of the M/A/S/P mode, my D610's memory buffer is always r09, and no matter how low the quality of the photo is, it stays at 9. Then, if I put it in U1/U2 (I haven't mess with the settings in over a year), the buffer goes up, and it changes according to the quality of the photo. I usually shoot in RAW and the buffer is at r14 in U1, I know that's only a 5 frame difference and I could just use U1 anyway but it's really annoying me. Can anyone tell me what may be wrong with my settings and why my memory buffer is only at 9 frames?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Several settings influence image size and thus how many shots the camera can buffer. Quality (JPEG/RAW) is only one of them; others for the 610 are whether it is set to FX or DX, whether you use 12-bit or 14-bit RAW compression, and whether the RAW compression is lossy or lossless. I assume one ore more of those settings are set differently in your U1/U2 settings. Only way to find out is to compare each of these settings between the two modes.

On second thought and after taking a look at the 610 manual, I realize that my previous post may still fall short of a full answer. Nikon lists a minimum buffer size of 14 even for the largest RAW file, so the fact that you're getting only 9 is strange. However, comment #2 on page 336 of the (English-language) manual may give a hint here: "[Buffer capacity] Drops if Optimal quality is selected for JPEG compression, ISO sensitivity is set to Hi 0.3 or higher, or long exposure noise reduction or auto distortion control is on."

Does one of those explain your issue?

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

You might want to consider a full factory reset (see your manual) so you can start with your camera in the know state.

The Auto Distortion is the one causing the buffer to fill up fast. I turned it off and now it is like the bunny, it keeps clicking. I put in Sandisk Extreme Pro card - 95MBs.
