Water PROOF

So I'm shooting guys doing backflips and whatnot at a pool party, SB910 on and everything, and right before their next jump I hear the host walking behind me say "ready?" Of course I'm ready, so I reply "yea."

And he pushes me right in. At the deep end. I roll my body and extend my arm straight up like I do during snowboard spills, but 5'11" is far too short for a 10m pool. Half the party from far away sees this unfold.

About an hour after toweling everything and letting the 600 air out with all plastic doors open, the only victim ended up 1 battery. Both SB and 600 work like champs after drying up, with only the AF select mode button sticking in just a little bit.

Definitely swear by Nikon like no other.

And definitely swear at the host for pushing you into the pool!

I truly hope that your gear is alright, but it is definitely not water proof. Know that you're fortunate in the short term to have it work for now, but don't count on it not being somewhat damaged and that the camera will now have issues that may only reveal themselves after a time goes by.

If the gear was still under warranty, I'm betting that the warranty is now void. Either way, I'd have the camera examined by a tech or service representative. And I'd sent the bill to the host who pushed me into the pool.

I would have them checked out. Water damage is strange. Especially the fact that it may seemed dried out, but that jolt to the circuitry needs to be looked at.

Even our lenses can get some dust inside so the possibility of getting water inside exists. The gear may be described as being weather resistant but they aren't waterproof. Definitely get everything checked out. And see if there is any video surveillance from the venue. Most likely the host had a few too many, but there is no excuse for his actions.

To put it simply as well, as far as last week went, this incident would be the lowest on the scale of everything else that did or could have happened easily. And yes, I know about possible water damage very well, and indeed time will tell. I have backup options, so I'm not abso-terri-badly worried and THEN I could indeed bill the host.

Until then though, its a great story to boost street cred.

Would have been a better story if you climbed out of the pool and kicked his ass! What a dumb ass. Pushing someone and his gear into the pool.

So you guys set this up beforehand, but you or he neglected to notice that you were at the deep end?

I had NO idea he would even get such an idea, so clearly he neglected the location. And @Blacktop, I rushed over to snap a couple diving shots and skiddadle back to the main area of the party, so I had absolutely 0 idea he'd even. Also, my unexpected attitude towards and while at work is what seemingly lately finds and gets me more work, so it all works out.

I have hung off the side of a party boat to get both the party and the boat logo before, so risky stunts are nothing new.

And finally, work gates have really opened up, so after mid-next week, I wouldn't care whether my 600 does or not give up because I would just get another used one and not really care.
