Nikon D600 Question AF mode and tracking

When in Auto selection on the Mode dial and half pressing the shutter all the focal points light up and flash.
When in "M" " A" "S" or "P" I only get all focus points light up if in Auto setting.
If I turn Auto off and set AF-A AF-C or AF-S to use 5' 9' 21' and 39' I only get one focal point showing, is this correct for my D600? As I don't seem have the control over the number of focus points when using AF-A AF-C and AF-S. Is this correct for my camera?

you will normally only see the one focus point in the view finder. You can see all the view points you have selected if you press the af-mode button or press the info button and view the display screen. If you saw all the focus points in the viewfinder it would be hard to see your subject.
