Will Nikon continue D610 series?

With the D610 being offered new for such a low price, has Nikon made any decision whether or not there will be a successor to it? Or will the D750 become the entry level FX body? Has anyone heard? I still use mine even though I have the D750.

The last Nikon Rumors post that I read recently seemed to think that both the D610 and D810 are coming up for a refresh soon. I can see where Nikon could want to keep an entry level full frame in that $1200-1500 range, but much closer to $2K and it overlaps too much with the D750. Will be interesting to see where that goes. I don't think most people consider the D750 to be entry level at all, so it would seem feasible if the math works out.

Thanks, Charlie. I hadn't heard anything from Nikon Rumors so it will be interesting to see if Nikon maintains that line. I hope so because the D610 is an excellent camera. The sensor is a little better than my D7100 so unless I really need the crop factor, I use either my D610 or D750.

Full frame mirrorless?

I don't know that I would be first to jump on that, but interesting. I still think there's room for an entry level full frame DSLR.

That's what makes my next choice so tough. I need better low light, since I'm doing more night event photography. I didn't care for the ergonomics of the D750 as much as the D610, so maybe I'm trying to justify a market just off my wants.

He would elaborate on sensor size, his comment came after i said it looked a bit like Nikon was dropping the 1 series while i was looking at M4/3 as a replacement.

I had both my D610 and D750 out at the same time today and could see a visible difference between the two. The area of the camera's body where the right hand grips it is deeper from front to back on the D610 than it is on the D750. I never gave it much thought, but I certainly could see the difference. I make use of my D610 and find it to be a fantastic body. With the price coming down so low, it really does allow more people to switch to FX who may not have had the chance in the past.

I am not sure and have yet to try. My 610 has this crop factor which means I could shoot in both FX and DX mode. With the ability to shoot at iso 6400 and such high IQ, I can't imaging paying anything near $1K for any DX camera other than the new D500 which I also has no chance to test yet.

DX mode on an FX camera is not at all the same thing as true DX, as you are losing resolution so your 24mp D610 becomes a 10mp DX D610. Unless you need the smaller file sizes for some reason or are using DX lenses you might as well just crop in post.
I do hope they bring out a D620 or whatever it might be called, as a drop in the price of the D610 could tempt me into FX waters.

The D610 already took a huge hit in price. It was $1999 new when it was released. Nikon lost many customers over the D600 problem. The D610 wasn't as highly regarded, and it's been coming down in price ever since. Not sure how much more it will drop--I'm talking about new, not used or refurbished. I wouldn't be surprised if Nikon makes a successor to the D610, perhaps the price would fall somewhere between the D610 and the D750...like $1799 or so.

If you are willing to buy grey you can already get a D610 for £839 (HDEW Cameras):cheerful:.

That's where I got my D7100 from. I doubt I will get an FX camera any time soon. The only time I really really want one is when I'm trying to photograph badgers near my home. In reality I'd probably need a D5 to get the shots I really want as they come out of their sett after the sun sets.

With newer models coming out fast, older models are going for a song. Over here in Singapore, you can get a D610 for £600.

No reasons why not to own a FX. Couple with the afs 24-120 f4 VR. It is a very good starter set.

If Nikon marketers understand buyer's psychology they will want that FX entry camera. (And "entry" does not mean cheap and poor quality by any means).

When I decided I wanted to step up to a better camera from my D5100 (which when I bought it was the camera one step up from the 'entry' level D3100). I looked at the D7100, almost bought one. But it was a case of "for a few dollars more you get to go FX". This is the lure of the D610. It tempts you for just a little more (relatively speaking) you get to move up to the next class of photography.

Much has been written about whether FX images are better than DX images. I shoot both. People at Nikonites with DX camera take fantastic images. But that's not the point. FX is a different class. Most professional lenses are FX. And they cost more - presumably Nikon makes more money (per unit) off of FX products. (I suspect overall they sell way more DX cameras but that is another story).

Anyway, if Nikon wants to lure people into the FX world and sell us lenses at $1,000, $2,000 and more per lens, first they have to get us into the FX system. .... so they need a camera that the sale clerk can say "well for a few hundred more you can go FX" and say it in a way that makes you feel special. It is not the gap between the D610 and D750 that matters (and when I was shopping it was the D810) it is the gap between the D7200 and D610.

Worked on me.

And I don't regret it.

Not even when parting with $1,000's for lenses.
