yesterday I got my d610 from amazon.com it was the camera (body only) with accessories for free which was a tripod, nikon battery grip, memory card 32gb and a camera bag.so last night I was fitting my battery grip and noticed it didn't fit. so I decided to go to b&h in nyc to get the vello one so make a long story short it didnt fit on there either so the guy took the a displayed 610 and compared it with mine guess what???!!! its not a d610 it was rebadged as a 610 on a d7000 body. I immediately got on the phone with amazon. after I cussed them out and demanded I wanted my money back, they are gonna send me shipping labels to send back to them and get refunded on everything. I have had a love hate relationship with amazon but now after this not a fan of their site at all. this wasnt even purchased off one of their secondary stores this was direct from amazon.

fake d610 aka d7000

I understand your frustration, but Amazon is the messenger. And they made it right. Your anger in my opinion is misplaced and should be with who filled the order.

Sorry to hear it, but Amazon ships thousands if not millions of orders like yours without this happening. It would make no sense to throw out the proverbial baby with the bathwater.

Looks to me like someone ordered a new D610, replaced what they got with their old D7000 after doing some "cosmetic surgery" and then returned the "D610" for a full refund. It also sounds like Amazon is making things right for you which, really, is all that can be done. Methinks they got screwed on this as well as you. And yes, I'd be PO'ed as well but I think you need to file this under "S--t Happens" and get on with life.

....

Sucks this happened, but with as many returns as they deal with I am sure its somewhat easy to not catch something like this. Haven't really thought about it happening, but this make you wonder if thats truly what happened.

Sounds like their return dept needs to be trained in scams like this. I have heard of it happening at Walmart, as a matter of fact I was on the receiving end of it like you. Just returned it, no problems but now I inspect every package item I get from them.

It sounds like Amazon (or the retailers that push these camera bodies) are getting a lot of "rebadged returns" and then reselling the rebadged camera (knowingly or unknowingly). Was this camera advertised as new? Do you know who the retailer was that Amazon fulfilled it for?

If you purchased this on their Warehouse Deals "used" equipment section... then you should have inspected the item first.
The one good thing, they can also backtrack who has had that specific camera and go after them for mail fraud. That in itself is not a misdemeanor crime if the person is convicted.
So karma will rear its ugly head to the person that did that.

Amazon however is primarily a 3rd party vendor. Do not go blaming them if the item went through a vendor, when they did their best to rectify the situation.

An important point to note when ordering from Amazon is if the listing says "Fulfilled by Amazon" or "ships and sold by Amazon". The invoice will say 'Sold by: Amazon.com LLC" if sold directly by Amazon or it will list the vendor if not Amazon. 3rd party sellers can keep their stock at Amazon and have Amazon ship it for them. Amazon is an authorized Nikon dealer, however a 3rd party vendor fulfilling through Amazon may not be an authorized Nikon dealer.
Now I'm just guessing here... If I were planning a scam like this, I would definately not keep doctored merchandise in an Amazon warehouse. Its just too risky. So I am betting this was a "shipped and sold by Amazon" but it was previously returned by some dirtbag.

Amazon has a great return policy. They make it almost too easy to return things. They often credit my account as soon as UPS scans my return without waiting to get the item back.

I'm trying to understand this.
Did someone take a D7000's insides and put it in an D610 FX body and return it to Amazon for a refund while holding on the the D610 which they placed in their old D7000 body?

I have no idea about either camera's buttons etc but wonder would that even work?

Amazon is a real stand up company and very customer service oriented. They always make things like this right, and they do it very quickly. Once when I had Amazon send a gift to my nephew, and UPS listed it as delivered but it really wasn't (they probably delivered it to the wrong house) Amazon sent the item out again immediately with NO questions asked.

It really sucks that this happened to you, and I hope you get a real D610 soon and have a ton of fun with it!

It looks like they just rebadged a d7000 with d610 logos. The camera (dials and stuff) are all D7000. So the only thing D610 about it is the badge. The OP covered one part of the camera that would have an FX badge if it were an FX camera (just below the lens release button). I wonder if the culprit took the time to transfer that badge as well.

If people could use that same brain power towards something good rather than trying to figure out a way to rip someone off, this world would be that much better.

They just somehow changed the little D610 nameplate. Its definitely a d7000 body. That little thingy over the D610 tag is round. It is triangular shaped on the d7100 and d600/610.

wouldn't go too crazy. i've been using Amazon for 20 yrs and the only problem i've had was in the delivery. certain carriers they use have either delivered it to the wrong place or not delivered it at all. but that's not really Amazon's fault (even that doesn't happen that often). as far as cameras, i ordered my D750 through them (no third party) and that's what i got.

I always prefer buying such expensive items from Adorama or B&H. The thing with Amazon and eBay is that, they do not have a good check on the sellers. Sometimes you can get fake items, like fake cables and batteries. Ofcourse they issue you a refund if you find out.
Another thing i have noticed buying from Amazon is that, most of the time they will charge you a sales tax, so for a $2000 item, you may end up paying upto $80-100 tax. That does not happen with Adorama or B&H, i have personal experience about this. I know it depends where you live, i live in Maryland.
