Flip down Viewfinder?

Not sure this is the right place to post this so if a Mod needs to move it, I'd understand.

I have a D600 and sometimes when I am out photographing, I like to have the camera in my hands above the ground either by a few inches to a foot or so. The problem is that this usually requires me to get on my stomach and sometimes that isn't possible.

I wanted to know if there is a solution that would allow me to see what the lens see and be able to know that the photograph will come out sharp. It would be great if it came with a flip-down viewfinder like the D5000 has. If there isn't a solution to fix this problem, then any tips or tricks would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Viewfinder

True, I could get the D5000 but I'd rather spend money on new glass. Was thinking that I could also use live view and maybe just get on my knees instead of my stomach and try it that way. Might be a trial/error thing. I'm confused by what you said about the tripod. What do you mean by "end by ended" ?

Lightroom will let you tether, but not view through the lens - it only captures the image directly. There are WiFi solutions with tablet apps (haven't used them but there are threads around).

Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 will allow you to use Live View while tethered to your computer. If you're ever considering doing product photography, this software is a must. I used it extensively when doing photographing coins for collectors and for ebay sellers.

I use the wu-1a wireless adapter on my D7100, and couple it with DSLR Dashboard on my android phone & tablet... It works reasonably well, but the wireless adapter doesn't have a strong signal, so it is easily defeated by walls, distance more than 5-10 meters and other stronger wireless signal on the same channel. But as a simple wireless remote, its a good portable option. NOTE: DLSR Dashboard is only on Android devices, not Apple - And the included Nikon software is very poor.

Re: Viewfinder

You could use the D600 in "tethered" configuration. Just attach the camera to a laptop and use software like Digicam to control the camera. I believe that there are similar software available for iPad

Tethering sounds good and the CamRanger software looks good as well. Will give it a try to see how it works. I like that the CamRanger software offers live-view. Would you say it's better to use an Ipad or Android Tablet?
@SteveH - I will also look into the DR-6 Viewfinder as that could come in handy as well.

Re: Viewfinder

Use 90 degree angle finder.

That's what I plan to start with first, mainly because it's the inexpensive route. Don't have the money at the moment to purchase a tablet.

BTW: How's it going back in my home state? Talking to my Dad earlier, he said it was in the 40's and suppose to be in the 30's there tonight. Fun... lol.

Re: Viewfinder

I'm into macro photography and getting low shots is difficult. I have 2 solutions. One is I bought a cam ranger. It attaches to your camera, then is wirelessly controlled through a smart device i.e.: iPad, phone. It's AWESOME!!!! My boyfriend does poll photography so he uses it with his rig also. The second is a right angle finder. I suggest springing for the Nikon one not the knockoff. I attaches to your viewfinder, you can switch the angle and also 1X or 2X for precise focusing. No more mud in the ear!

I have the website for cam ranger bookmarked actually lol. So when I purchase a tablet or something; I can purchase cam ranger. I'm also looking at the right angle view finder; which I'll purchase first.

Also, what is poll photography? First I've heard of this.

Re: Viewfinder

Oh, my boyfriend uses a special pole that extends 20' with an MP360 mounted on top and his camera on top of that. The MP360 has a motor that rotates up/down and side to side wirelessly when connected to the Cam Ranger. You get a birdseye view.

Oh okay, sounds neat. I've seen photos of photographers using those before. I see where I got confused though. In the other post, you had said 'poll' so that had me scratching my head lol. No biggie though, we all make errors.

There is a right angle viewer! I bought one myself! It's a DR-6 by Nikon and it will do the trick for ya, if your interested in a eye piece you can take on and off as needed easily! :D

That's what I'm going to get first. I'll eventually buy a tablet but will start off with the DR-6 first. From what I've read; it has 2 magnification options? What does that do or should say, allow me to do? (besides magnify of course lol)
