This link just showed up in my Facebook news feed. It says if the dust issues aren't resolved, they will replace the D600 with a different camera.

Quote from the link below:

With regard to the issue with which multiple granular black spots are reflected in images captured with the D600 digital SLR camera, Nikon sincerely apologizes for any concern and inconvenience suffered by D600 users, retailers, and all concerned.
Because Nikon takes this matter very seriously, we will continue to offer users of the D600 a special service with which cameras are inspected, cleaned, and if necessary, shutter and related components are replaced free of charge, even after the product warranty has expired. However, if a number of multiple granular black spots are still noticeable in images captured with a D600 upon which the above service has been performed several times, Nikon will replace it with a new D600 or an equivalent model.
Nikon will continue to work to improve the quality of its products and services even further.
We hope that you will continue to choose Nikon products for your photographic needs.

Imagine how many times you would need to send in your camera for cleaning before that happens. Then think about the time lost during those intervals before you end up getting a replacement. Even then your replacement would probably still be another D600 as they probably have a ton of excess stock in.

What a fiasco. It's a day late and a dollar short. Had Nikon put this email out soon after the problem was shown to be widespread, it would be one thing but to wait until an entire country bans your product from their shelves (ie - China) is a whole other thing entirely.

At least they are fiiiiiiiinally acknowledging the issue, in an official capacity, and offering to do something about it. Though I wholeheartedly agree with DaveW; day late and a dollar short is putting it mildly. This is a black-eye for Nikon.

No imagining on my end. Three services within 2 months or so left mine with spots that couldn't be removed. Actually my problem turned out pretty well. I bought my D600 from B&H so I earned 4% rewards that I applied to a future order. Then after Nikon reimbursed me for the D600, I used the refund money to buy a D610 and received another 4% rewards...which is long gone by the way! ;)

Well, I went to my local photo store and the manager will contact the Nikon rep to see if they would agree to replace my D600 for a D610 even though I haven't sent it in once. Since I got a D80, D90, D7000, D700 and D600 from that store, they might try to coax the rep to oblige. I should know next week. I told them that I just kept cleaning mine over and over and that I'd be ready to deal. Oh, and I added that if they do oblige, then I might get a D800 or Df. So I'll see how much Nikon cares about a loyal customer.

The statement is now posted on their official website. Hmmmmm. I'm sending mine in tomorrow for it's 4th repair along with a firm letter. I better get a new one in return!
