Hi guys/girls , I'm hoping someone has actually tried this combo in the field :-
I'm off to lemans 24hr in June :)
im looking to use the nikon 70-200 f2.8 for the closer stuff , but was thinking about using the nikon x2 teleconverter for the longer stuff. I figured I get the best of both worlds with this fantastic Lens.

i plan to use the continuous focus whilst panning with the cars , do you think or know how this combo will perform using the teleconverter . I'd rather not lug around something like a sigma 150-500 unless everyone thinks the sigma option is the better choice ..

Cheers

f/4 with the T/C should still perform extremely well. You're definitely all set with that combo, just bring enough memory and batteries.

I have actually shot this combo TC20E III on my 70-200 f2.8 VRII and it was still sharp and decently fast to auto focus. I shot for a local track and did some bike touring races. It was fun and I was pleased. I would have to second SkvLTD on the extra memory and batteries. I was there for 4hrs and filled two 32mb cards and depleted my batteries. So yeah extras are a biggy. Good luck and can't wait to see the results. Good Luck!!!

I might have to have you kidnapped so i can take your place on that trip...

The combo should work fine. I've been using my 70-200 2.8 on a D5200. Two batteries gets me about 2400ish shots, and i definitely always have more than 2 memory cards. I leave for the Sebring 12 hrs in a week and a half, and I'll have 2 batteries for my D7100 and 4 memory cards. That should keep my occupied.
