Re: Advice pls

Not familiar with that lens. I just purchased a D7000 in November and I am finding that a sturdy tripod is an accessory that I MUST have. Congrats on the new camera!

Hi there! I have a Tamron 28-70 f/3.5-4.5 and I get better results than with a Nikon 24-85 f/3.5-4.5... The only reason why I don´t use the Tamron is because it has a lot of dust inside, otherwise... Don´t know about that one though, but read some reviews. Some sites are pretty good, others not so much, but read a few before you decide, don´t read just one... ;)

Thx but i think the Nikon 24-70 is twice the price.....Or am i looking in the wrong direction....
I will take a look around though. Thought there might be someone on here that might have one.

I was going to say, a "little more" seems to be a very subjective term.

If you're inclined to go budget 24-70mm f/2.8 I like the Sigma a lot. Like the Nikon it doesn't have VR. That said, I'm (not so actively) selling mine because I find the 24-85mm kit lens to be more than adequate, and I've since added the Nikon 24-120mm f/4 because of the reach - makes a great all around lens.

Bodies might come and go, but glass lasts (almost) forever. Sure, the Nikkor is 2X the price of the other lenses. But, you'll never have to worry about compatibility or resale value.

Have you read the DXO Mark review?

I own the Sigma, too, and am quite happy with it. Sure, it isn't quite as good as the Nikon, but it is remarkable in its own right.

As for the Tamron, have you red the DXO Mark review? If not, be sure to also read the 3 links at the end of page 1.

I think the op obviously has a limited budget and it is very frustrating whenever some ask for a suggestion without mentioning the budget.

Used market might be an alternative.

The seller is D-solution via Amazon. I don't see D-solution as an authorized Tamron dealer. But it IS an awesome price

Hi Jake and thx. Is this the lens your talking about ? Im looking for an 'All rounder' type of lens. Ill be using it for weddings and also night clubs...

The price is too high for an older lens.

for longer term use, i would really get either 24-120mm f4 vr or nikon 24-70mm f2.8 since most lenses tend to hunt on darker venues. I've owned both at one point but i kept the 24-70mm f2.8 since it is optically sharper at f4.

but i'll leave the rest of the decision to you.

Stephen, I'm not @BackdoorHippie, but I don't think that is the kit lens he mentioned. I *think* this is the one he meant which is the US warrantied model:

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens 2204 B&H Photo

Hopefully Jake will respond so you'll know for sure. I've seen some photos that members here have taken with it, and it does produce terrific results! :)
