Finally pulled the trigger on a d610

Well after much debate on d610 vs d800, and what is right for me. I chose the 610 even though I can afford and really wanted a d800. I just don't think I need the 36mp and the 51 focus points dont really help me either. I have that on my d300s and don't use it much. I guess what did it is, that I like to shoot all different types of photography and for me I feel the 610 is going to be a great full frame all rounder when coupled with good glass. Can wait to start shooting with it.

Awesome! Congrats on the new D610! I'm sure that someday I'll go to full frame, if I ever save up for the higher cost! Lol :D

Imo the IQ is better than the D3/D700. it outperforms them even to iso 6400. very capable camera that can hang with the big boys. even on par with the D800 at iso 6400. how it gets there is another question. AF is a big slowish (bit) and some things here and there that youll have to compromise with. get a grip for $30 from ebay for better balance of the heavier lenses. will fit great in the hand.

Just an update, I finally got the 610 in my hands today. While I have not had much time with it. I did notice a weight difference coming from the d300s and of course the grip feels different, none of this is a bad. A funny thing though, i mounted a 105 Macro lens on it and hit the shutter button and the flash popped up, it scared the !$&@: out of me. :) as I didn't know that it was set to auto and apparently auto ISO as well. I will be shooting most of the day tomorrow and will try and post some pics.

I am looking forward to your commentary/review with pics as I am very interested in the 105mm Micro lens.

I use the 105 on a D7000, but realize it was made for full-frame cameras. Please give us your impressions of its pairing with the 610.

Used my VR 105 today with D600. works fine. but no comparison to the way it feels with the d3. not speed wise, but the confidence you feel with the D3 vs D600. it feels like a monster in full rage vs the D600 wimpy timidness. im fragile guys dont hurt me. go slow, is what it would say. never any time I photograph anything without doing some 105VR shots. fabulous for closeup, for candids for portraits. very versatile. A must for event shooters. you can get away with 70-200 range lens but the minimum distance is very limiting many times. I had my back up against something many times with my head on the inch trying to get it to focus on minimum distance. the VR has no issues. stellar lens. sharp as hell even wide open.
