D600 draining fully charged batteries overnight

First time this happened I assumed I had left the camera on and chalked it up to something strange but a once off, but it seems it happens every time, i have two genuine EL-EL15 batterys and I fully charge them and put in camera, but overnight the camera goes completely dead and the batteries need full recharging again, and its both batteries, so I reset all my menu options back to factory just in case I had done something unawares but it happened again last night, I dont have high hopes for a quick fix but it happens to be wedding season here so slightly in the poo considering the nikon repairer for NZ is a long away and i hate to send my camera on the courier anyway, has anyone else had this experience??

Re: D600 running fully charged batts flat overnight

Not at all with any of my Nikons. Have you checked to see if anything remains active when it's supposed to time out, like the LEDs in the viewfinder? Does it happen regardless of whether the camera is On or Off? If it's happening even when the camera is turned odd then I'm afraid you have some sort of electronic issue. You said you've reset everything to factory using the menus, but have you tried the 2-button reset as well? On the D600 it is the Exposure Compensation and ISO buttons (both have green dots next to them) - hold them down simultaneously for 2 seconds while the camera is on.

Maybe something wrong with charger?

I dont think so, they still charge up and when they get in the camera theyre perfect, fully charged and it seems to work fine, its only when the camera is turned off after use that the batteries get drained :(

2 batteries... Are you using a grip...? Maybe the grip is faulty and draining the batteries...

Has the camera gotten wet recently? I wonder if there is a short somewhere.

I'd suggest removing the batteries when it isn't in use to see if that will extend their life--at least until you can see about getting the camera serviced.

If the batteries are still drained the next day, then most likely it isn't a camera issue--it would either be a battery or charger issue.

If they're draining even when the camera is off then there's almost definitely a short somewhere that is sucking at the battery 24x7. It does beg the question, as was asked, are you using a grip and loading both batteries, and if so is it a 3rd party grip? Regardless, if you have a grip I'd remove the grip and see if it still drains the battery and if not work without it. Could be something in the connection.

Check to make sure there is nothing across the contacts in the camera and the grip. And like Jake said, if you are using a grip remove it and see if the battery in the camera still drains.

My guess is that you bought a third party grip (imitation). It happens once in a while with these. You did mention that the batteries were genuine, but how about the grip???

The best method is to isolate the issue.
1. The batteries are self discharging. To check, fully charge the batteries and take them off the camera. Test if they are still charged the next day.
If not then the batteries are self discharging. This rarely happens, and if they are new you may be eligible for replacement
Else -
2. The batteries are discharging in the camera. See if it is the battery grip. Just disconnect the grip and see if the batteries are still discharging.
If not it is the grip
Else it is the camera. In this case you only recourse is to send the camera for warranty repair.

Hi, I have the same issue with my d600. Recently it came from service repair related to matrix dust. It drains within several hours fully charged battery. I've noticed that it gets warm as well, without beeing used. Apart of that it seems to work as it was before. Recently, since I started to search for informations about this model I found some pictures of the inside (disassembling) which makes me counscious about its cheap and as time shows - unreliable mechanical solutions in comparision to old d200... In my d600 aperture controll lever is also failing after about 80k shots.
___
Could be worth to add:
My camera wasn't used with grip.
Firmware was recently updated by nikon service - so there is a question if battery draining issue could be related to this update?

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.

Sorry about your problem, but you posted to a thread from 2013 that the only solution seemed to be to have the camera serviced.

Did you send it into Nikon for the previous service? Here in the USA, Nikon offers a short warranty on their service/repairs (can't remember but it might be 30 days). Are you still within any service warranty time frame? My suggestion is to contact where it was serviced and see if they can repair it at no cost (if it hasn't been too long since you've had it back).
