Hello friends, I have sent my camera 3 times for sensor cleaning in Indian (Bangalore service center) 3 times they have cleaned the sensor, even though i have asked them to replace the sensor they have not done that, camera is still under warranty and it is only 10 months old camera. My question to the experts here is, will the image quality affect (will i get slightly bad quality) or will there be any problem due to repeated sensor cleaning, i am talking in terms of the quality of the picture and also in terms the quality of the sensor?RegardsDeepak

The term "sensor cleaning" is a misnomer. Your sensor is not being cleaned, rather it's a plane of glass that is sitting directly upon your anti-aliasing filter (OLPF) that is being cleaned. Your sensor is never touched.

And it is not the sensor that is creating the dust issue on the D600's, it is the shutter mechanism. Replacing the sensor would do absolutely nothing to resolve an issue, if you are having one.

Thanks to Jake and Dave for the reply. even though this problem has caused due to shutter problem, but the oil spill happens on the sensor and due to that there were permanent spots on the sensor and that's how i came to know because there were dust spots on the sensor. To remove dust spots from the sensor they have to clean the sensor, now my question is very simple, after the repeating process of cleaning has been done on the sensor will the quality of the sensor glass gets effected, due to which the quality of the picture gets effected?

Proper cleaning should have no effect on IQ.

I don't know about that Rick. Haven't you ever noticed that stupid folks just aren't as clean as smart people?

Just a thought.

I'm gonna take an extra shower before I meet you next month. At least I'll appear smart!

What you REALLY need to do to end the problem is to have the shutter replaced. The shutter causes the oil to splatter on the low pass filter which covers the sensor. The sensor itself is not touched during the cleaning process--it is the low pass filter that gets spotted. Let me repeat--the sensor has a low pass filter on top of it so the sensor itself is not in contact with the oil spots.

Cleaning it properly will remove the oil. Care needs to be taken so no one uses too much of the cleaning fluid. There have been reports of streaks on the low pass filter which may be due to using too much of the fluid. You can have it cleaned time and time again, but the actual solution to the problem is to have the shutter replaced under warranty.
