I sent my D600 in for dust and oil. I'm hope they have a handle on this issue

Around 9,000 actuations I really didn't see anything worth note about dust/oil spots. I had done 2 wet cleanings to that point. So basically I never paid much attention to it until about 15,000 shots and I did a spot pic and was amazed by all the spots. So I called Nikon, sent in a pic and they sent me a 2nd day shipping label in a couple of hours. I just dropped off the camera so hopefully the turn around time is less than 2-3 weeks.

I'm really hoping they have a suitable fix for this issue and not just a clean.

Please Keep us posted on the outcome!

Yes, if possible please give us the play-by-play version so those of us with affected D600's will have an idea of what to expect. I appreciated Jake's in depth description of his trials and tribulations--hopefully Nikon has a better handle on these repairs and can do them quickly and perfectly! ;) Thanks for letting us know about this! :smile-new:

Mine was delivered in LA this morning. The customer service rep said turn around is a week to 10 days right now. We'll see.....

I wasn't very receptive to sending my camera off for a problem that didn't really affect me. Sure the issue shouldn't exist but it wasn't visible in my pics and truthfully I just didn't feel that Nikon had a true fix. It was Jake's thread(s) that convinced me that Nikon might have a handle on the problem. So when I saw the spots I thought now was the time. I'll try to update this thread as events occur.

One thing that seemed to help the phone conversation move along was having my equipment registered at nikonusa and have a user account already setup. After giving the rep my email she was able to pull up all my equipment and get the ball rolling right away. Like Vector Z mentioned she said 7-10 days (excluding shipping) so I'm hoping for about 2-3 weeks.

If I am remembering correctly, BackdoorHippie's D600 went to the NY repair center. It will be interesting to compare the results and customer service between these two locations. VectorZ and PapaST, please keep us updated! :)

Yes mine went to LA. It was received on Tuesday morning. I'll give them a week and check in unless they contact me before then. I'm hoping I get a shutter replacement too.

I had the same issue, I was on a holiday in GOA, India clicked some amazing pics but came home and saw lot of dust sensor issues, believe it or not i found more then 100 dust spots on the top right and left corner of the frame, it was so shocking. when i sent to the service center they denied its sensor dust, they told me that it happened due to frequent lens change. The truth is i had only my kit lens 24-85 lens mounted on my camera all the time.
I am so fed up with my camera now, it is the 4th time I am sending my camera for servicing, 3 times for the sensor dust, which got partially solved after that when i got my camera i see a black spot in the viewfinder. now again 4th time i had to send it again. I think the service center people are very careless and lazy buggers, they don't even double check to make sure everything is ok. Now i have finally decided to sell this to some one. I really do not have any patience or interest in this camera any more. I was supposed to buy D700, but fell in the ditch bcoz of flashy adds and bull shit recommendations written by some stupid money making review writers. I think i will be loosing at least 1000 dollars as the price of this camera has come down. I purchased this camera for $ 2400. What a waste. I sincerely request newcomers not to buy this camera. Instead go for a Nikon D800 or D3s or any lower end camera.

Sounds like your experience is worse than others, I've cleaned my sensor one time (myself) and it has been fine. Hopefully you will find a model that works better for you!

Just an update for this process. I emailed in through the Nikon Support portal to ask for an Order number so that I could track the process. I got a response 24 hours later that it takes 2-3 business days (once the camera is received) for Nikon to generate a ticket.

good luck with the service. I also am waiting to see what happens before taking the leap and purchasing the 600, but have seen the beautiful images the 600 can take. Full frame intrigues me because it reminds me of photography before digital! That makes these stories all the more frustrating. Maybe the issue will be resolved shortly, and maybe Nikon is getting or has gotten a handle on the problem and has a fix for it.
Let's hope! Once again, i hope all is corrected on your camera.

Hope all goes well, I'm sure it will. Nikon should've solved this issue by now on the D600. It's a great camera but I'm sure it's put people off buying one if they're aware of the problem. I for one went straight to a D800e and have never had this problem. I do however hold the camera with the lens mount downward and blow inside the body with a Giotto Rocket blower each time I change lens.

Received an email today with my work order number so I can track the progress of the repair. Also a PDF Estimate/Acknowledgement stating what they received, a service repair rank of "B2", and a statement that the repair is covered under warranty. Nothing about what actual work or parts will be used to fix.

Weird, I received an actual snail mail letter today advising me of receipt and what was attached to the camera. (no battery or memory card) I have not received any e-mails.
