Can't see my d600 NEF files

Hi, I hope someone can help. I got my new d600 last week and having shot an event over the weekend, I was unable to see and import my images into Lightroom. I was using LR3 and was advised to upgrade to LR4 which I did, but it's not a straightforward route now. Problem I need help with is that I still can't see my d600 images. I'm on mac (10.6) and have camera raw 7.3 and the latest version on view NX. Usually when I download my d700 images via card reader, they automatically go to a sub folder in 'my pictures' called Nikon transfer. Each download goes into a new numbered sub folder. If I open this folder i can see what each thumbnail image is with my d700 but i can only see generic NEF thumbnails with my d600 downloads. I usually copy this folder onto the appropriate folder on my hard drive and then open to start image selection for editing, before importing into LR. Can any shed any light on this?? Thanks.

Now I am not familiar with the D600 or Mac Lightroom, but I know that there were updates released for 4 for the RAW files from the D600 & D800 you may want to look and see if there are any updates for 4.0, hope that helps. Good luck and happy new camera.

You need the latest version of Adobe Camera RAW. This is independent of Lightroom version and should work with LR4, but you need to be at least at version 4.2 to automatically get D600 support.

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated. I have the latest version of LR and checked for any updates today. I'll check for updates on the other software and update if necessary. Lets see if that works.

You didn't really describe the problem you are having with Lightroom. What happens when you try to Import into LR 4? You select the folder but nothing is there?

Click on the little apple, and then software update. You could always just take the memory card out and plug it into the computer directly? I'm on Lightroom 4 and MAC, and it works with my D600... so maybe updates?

My usual practice is to download all my files (I always shoot with 2 cameras) via view NX into a sub folder of my pictures. View NX creates a new numbered folder with each download. I leave my originals there, make copies and create a single new folder for all the newly imported images on the appropriate directory on my HD. I then do my selection for editing, put them in a new folder alongside the ones Im not using, and then open LR, click on add new folder, select the folder with the images I've already pre-selected for editing and then import. This method has worked for the last 2 years with files from my d700 & d300. If I follow the same procedure with files from my d600, LR says preview of these files unavailable. So on Sunday, after upgrading from LR3 to 4, I tried again but I got the same result.

So I tried uploading directly from my CF and SD cards directly into LR - if it's open it prompts you to import so I did. This time I could see my images. The images from each card transferred into different sub folders and were stored in a different sub folder still in 'my pictures'. In LR I then moved images from 3 folders into the 4th so they were now all in one place, so I could now see and edit my images. Prob is that I don't want to select my images for editing whilst I'm in LR. It's too slow. I know I can go through them and flag them but it takes ages. I prefer sorting them into a sub folder before I import.

Hope this makes sense!

Ive done apple software updates last week but will try again.... Do you mean put my card into a card reader rather than attaching my camera? I usually use my card reader.

I appreciate this info, too. I am using a PC, and my original version of Lightroom 4 (installed from a disc) would not read the RAW files from my D600 although it read the RAW files from my D90. I opened Lightroom 4 and went to Help→Check for Updates and downloaded the latest version of Lightroom 4 (version 4.4). With Comcast's high speed internet, it took @13 minutes to download then there was additional time to extract and install it. Now it reads the D600 RAW files. Thanks again! :)

Greeneye, did you ever resolve your issue? My RAW files were transferred to my PC via a card reader before I updated Lightroom 4. The files were on the PC but weren't able to be opened by Lightroom 4. Now with the updated version of Lightroom 4, I imported the RAW files without any trouble.
