New To Me D60

Hey all. So I bought a used D60 with an 18-55mm lens (kit lens I assume). It came with everything but the original box. I paid $50 (+ $10 for her to deliver it to me).

Seemed like a good deal based off of eBay completed pricing. So... Here's the question:

I'm a newbie... What did I buy, and will it be a good starter camera, and was it worth $60.00.

(I also have a Sony Alpha A55 I was given, with Minolta A-mount lenses that I found at a yard sale for $2.00).

Sorry if I rambled... 14 hour work day equals tired me.

Only you will know what you bought since the state of the camera could be from pristine to damaged. Take some shots with it and some with your A55 and then decide which one is the best one for you.

Seems solid. Took them both to NC with me on Friday, and honest can't tell a distinguishable difference, though I haven't gotten to really review many of them yet.

I have not found any damage or issues as of yet. The seller said she just wanted to upgrade and pass along a good deal.

If all works well the I think it'll make a good starter Nikon for ya, and help you decide down the road if you'll want to get further into photography with lenses and camera body upgrades! :)

I'd love to find a zoom lens for the Nikon, but between lack of knowledge and lack of funds I'll just have to carry both cameras for a while.

Keep your eye out for a clean 55-200mm VR for about $100 or so. Maybe even a 55-300 for a little more than that. Great combo to get you going.

Thanks Carguy! I'll post a couple of the pictures I took with it as soon as I can. Its my first Nikon, so I'm quite excited.

I know this thread is a few months old, the op is probably quite proficient with his new camera by now.;) I bought a new discontinued D-60 a few years ago. I had quite a time getting a shutter problem resolved, it was away for eight weeks while Nikon decided whether it should be fixed on warranty, but it works well for me now. If it craps out again I will replace it, I can't justify fixing it at the price of a new body. I am not sold on Nikon after this experience.
It is my first digital so the learning curve is steep. Sure cheap to use after slide film and processing and I can edit my own pictures. This is really cool. I find it easy to use, the controls are comfortable. I am currently taking a beginner course, two evenings and a Saturday morning, and am only now learning how to use the various features. The manual is not all that useful, it tells me what the button is for but not what the feature will do for me. They seem to assume I am knowledgeable with cameras.
