Beach / lighthouse photography - suggested lens

Hi everyone - I'm relatively new to photography but have been browsing the nikonites forum for awhile now. Right now I have a Nikon D60 with a AF-S NIKKOR 18-55 mm (3.5 - 5.6g) lense, which has been great to practice with. However, I'm really getting into beach / landscape photography (with a focus on lighthouses) and would love to get some suggestions for an upgraded lense to get. Thanks for any advice!

Your 18-55 is plenty wide for those shots.
I use a 24-120 3.5-5.6 for my lighthouse shots. Most are shot at 24mm at f8 or f11.

If I understand your questions correctly, you are looking to have a different perspective than what you are getting with your present lens. Now there are two avenues you can go with. The super-wide angle (10-20, 8-16 or 12-24) that would give you a much wider field of view, or the telephoto approach (70-200) that would compress the landscape and let you get into more details of the lighthouses without having to get physically too close. You probably will end up with both a super-wide and a telephoto so it will then be your choice to use one or the other approach.

Examples:

Super-wide:

Telephoto:

Great examples guys! If you are looking for something in the middle, for Dx I would go with the Nikon 16-85. A bit wider than standard with some reach also.

i have added lighthouses as a must shoot , havent shot many yet as i live a long way from the coast but im on the lookout , i want too build shots that i add the light too like this one shot on a recent cruise to nz , shot heading out of sydney, it was shot in daylight and processed using photoshop and mystical lighting with a 55-300
any of the above lenses will work for you
