D60 Error: Press shutter release button again. Doesn't work!

My 5-year-old D60 shows this error message: "Error: Press shutter release button again." However, doing so does not fix it. Looking online, I learned that the culprit is likely a small, red sprocket/gear/wheel inside the bottom of the camera. Cleaning it of lint and dirt, lubing it, and turning the wheel a bit was supposed to correct the problem. But on mine, it only offers a very temporary fix (I can take a few shots before it shows the same error message again.

Given my limited means, sending it off to Nikon for repairs is not a viable option. I'm bummed out not having a fully functioning camera and facing the prospect of buying another camera!

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Sparky.

Your positive response was very encouraging. I assume that you meant "foot" when using "leaf." Not quite ready to give up on a viable solution. Shutter is fine. Ten-cent plastic wheel is not.

For the cost of repair by Nikon I'd suggest buying another body. Cameta still has refurbished D3000 cameras. I bought one to keep in the back of my car so I always have a camera with me.
