Hey all, can anyone help?

My d60 has developed a curious problem where the command dial does not respond, and I am unable to change F-stop or shutter speed. Has anyone encountered this problem? I am not in a place where I can find service for the camera, is their anything I can to to solve the problem myself?

Thank you, Alex

The only time I've had that happen is when the metering function times out. Usually pressing the shutter 1/2 way to engage the meter will allow that function to start working again. If that's not the problem then make sure you're not in P or Auto modes. Otherwise, you may have a real problem.

That's what I was going to say. If you press the shutter part way then stop momentarily, it can be long enough for the dial to time out. It might be a feature Nikon enabled to help preserve battery power during the times if the dial gets accidently bumped.

OK. For how long would it time out for? I have a habit of holding the shutter half way after focusing. Maybe I am the problem and not the camera. Wouldn't be the first time!!

Set the camera to either Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, or Manual Mode. Hold the shutter down halfway then let go of it. Immediately turn the command dial. It *should* work. If you hold the shutter down halfway and let it go, and wind up waiting 10 seconds or more, the command dial probably won't work. Pressing the shutter part way or all the way activates the command dial, but if the command dial isn't adjusted immediately after pressing the shutter, it probably won't work.

If it doesn't work this way for you especially while in Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, or Manual Mode, most likely there is a problem with the camera.

Or...have you recently reassigned the role of the command dial? Some cameras allow that feature.
