The Copyright text?

Hi there,

I have only just received an early Christmas pressie in the form of a Nikon D5600 and I am still very much in the learning curve.

Now a question, I have managed to sort out the Copyright details and "sometimes" those details show up in the lower right hand corner of the photographs, but "sometimes" they do not. They only seem to show up on images I have transferred to my phone via the SnapBridge App. When I transfer any image, be it by connecting the camera to the USB port on my (OLD) iMac running El Capitan or by taking the SD card out of the camera and using my SD USB reader the details are no where to be seen!

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Why wouldn't you? Anyway, as they say, horses for courses!

It detracts from the image.

As I was saying, any ideas?

Please do not bother to post if all you have to say is "Why would you want the copyright details... " etc, that is not what I want to know!

Copyright data is placed on images by software... NOT the camera. The camera only embeds the data in the EXIF data of the file.

One reason you would NOT want it embedded in the image is if you sold the publication rights to someone, they would NOT want your copyright on their image.

Thank you Fred,

Yeah, the part about "...sold the publication rights to someone..." I fully understand, but that goes without saying.

That what you mention about the Exif data, mmmmm, I've looked within that and found no "copyright" data. As I said at the start of this topic, unless I transfer the image via the SnapBridge, nothing shows.

Can you share a pic with us, so we can see what it is that shows up in your pics? It sounds like a Snapbridge issue, which I have never used. Have you looked in the menu settings in that program? The cameras that I have used and looked through the menus, I only remember seeing to be able to put a date stamp on the pics, which I don't pay much attention to, so there may be a setting in there. I would think that it would show up no matter how you transfer it though!

Here you go Rob,

DSC_0030 1Kpx.jpeg

In the bottom right hand corner you can see my name. Now that image was transferred from my camera via SnapBridge to my phone, I then sent it to my computer and it stayed as it was. What I can't fathom is if I try transferring, either via the USB cable or via the SD card, my name simply goes poof!

It has to do with settings in Snapbridge or your phone, not in the transfer with the USB cable or SD card I would say. If you take a pic with your phone camera and share it, is your name there? If not, it's probably in Snapbridge. It is probably named something like watermark, in the settings menu. Most likely, if you want it in your pics, you will have to add it on your computer in post processing.

I read the SnapBridge has the ability to, "imprint the pictures with comments." I am guessing because you are transferring to the phone, SnapBridge is writing the information on the image just like if you were printing it. Also, if you were transferring to the phone from NEF files, I am pretty sure it changes the files to jpegs. If you are transferring the files to a computer using the cards/cords then you aren't using SnapBridge for that, so any copyright information that you put into the camera's settings just get imbedded into the EXIF metadata. I suppose that if you view the image on the back of the camera, you don't see your name. So, SnapBridge is doing this because of some setting as Rob suggested. I am just guessing base on the little bit I know about SnapBridge. I don't use it. Too slow and too flaky for me. Good luck. Welcome to Nikonites.

@Phil Rosa-Leeke You've locked the copyright switch in your profile so we can't download your image. If you unlock it, then someone can download your image, sort through the EXIF data and show you exactly what YOUR camera is doing...

Hi Fred,

I think I have unlocked the copyright switch, please let me know either way lol.

As for the copyright on my images. I have just installed two Nikon Progs on my wife's iMac and as it is only 3 years old it has no issue with upto date progs like my old dino does (what do I expect from a 13 year old iMac! Mind you it still gets most stuff done pooor old thing.).

I then hook up my camera to the USB and all worked fine. The copyright details are within the EXIF and that suits me fine. I was just at a loss when I saw it actually "printed" on the images that I SnapBridged to my phone and yet nothing on any images transferred either via USB or the SD card.

In other words, I think this issue is solved as far as I am concerned. As long as the EXIF shows it, I am happy.

Getting back to the "unlocking" part, as I said above, please let me know if I have done the right thing Fred.

@FredKingston

Here is another image from my camera to see if you can see said data:

No, it still doesn't work for me. Go to the Settings tab near the top of the page. Then go to My Account-->General Settings. Once there, scroll down to within Log In & Privacy. Then look for Disable download of your photos. Click No.

The following link might take you directly to that section. Give it a try.

The way to sum this up is that different software is being used in the middle step of transferring the photos by the different methods. Because the workflow is different, that is the reason for the different result. If I send you a letter by mail, the stamp will be stamped with a postmark, but if I drop the letter directly into your mailbox, no postmark. But the letter got from my hand to your mailbox both ways.

So Snapbridge is the suspect for adding the watermark. I never use it so I don't know what is set to make it appear. I always transfer my photos to my PC by removing the SD card and plugging it into the built-in card reader of either my desktop or laptop PC, and import with Nikon software suite.

That meal looks really good.

Oh, it was lol. In Portuguese it's called "Secretos de Porco Preto" which in English mean Iberian Pork Secrets. I am not too sure what the actual "cut" of meat it is, but it is ruddy nice, simply grilled with raw garlic sprinkled over it when it is served.
