Nikon D5600 WiFi

Hi Folks.

I have just upgraded to the Nikon D5600 and I am very keen to use the WiFi and Bluetooth features, but I cannot figure out how to turn the WiFi on/off and the Bluetooth is greyed out on the setting screen. Am I being a bit dense? Does the WiFi have to be on to enable the Bluetooth setting?

I would be very pleased if anyone can explain to me, in simple terms, how to turn the WiFi on.

Nelly.

Have you turned Airplane mode off?

Do you have the Nikon SnapBridge app loaded on your smart device?

While I haven't worked with the D5600 specifically, the wifi support on the previous D5300 was very rudimentary in that in really only worked with Nikon's app (WMU at the time). The D500 uses SnapBridge, and alternates between bluetooth and wifi as needed.

I have not used it (don't have a cell phone), but from other d500 chat groups, the SnapBridge process has proved very problematic -- for some it works a treat, for others even Nikon support can't make it happen.

Thanks for the reply’s Folks, but I still don’t know how to turn the WiFi on/off.

This may be a good starting point: Nikon | Download center | SnapBridge

This note on page 11 is what I referred to about the wifi functionality: "SnapBridge usually relies on Bluetooth for connectivity between the camera and smart device, but will switch to Wi-Fi for remote photography and the like. In some versions of iOS, SnapBridge will prompt you to perform the switch manually, in which case you will need to follow the steps below."

Thanks for the info "Rocket Cowboy" with the help of a friend who has a D5300, we used snapbridge to set up both cameras to the wifi and Bluetooth.
It works very well.

Glad to hear it! I've only used Snapbridge with the D500 a few times, but I have no direct experience with the D5600 so glad it was helpful.
