Webcam Utility Challenged

I'm trying to use the Nikon Webcam Utility Ver 1.0.1 with my D5500 but can't seem to get it to work with any of the virtual meeting programs (e.g. Teams, Google Meet, Zoom). When I select my PC's built-in camera, the camera output displays fine. When I select the Nikon Webcam Utility as my camera source, however, the display shows a mirror image of the Nikon symbol and the words Webcam Utility, Ver 1.0.1 and nothing else. It doesn't matter if the camera is on or off, I get the same output. I've tried this on 2 different PCs (a Dell and an HP) but to no avail. I've watched various videos on Internet and it appears to be very simple. Plug in the camera to PC USB port (I'm using the cable that came with my camera originally) and turn it on and life is grand. I've tried rebooting the laptops, I've uninstalled/reinstalled the Utility, I've updated my camera's firmware but none of this has worked.

Possibly of note, I've tried hooking up the D5500 to the OBS program and get the same result.

I'd appreciate any thoughts re: things to try, reset, etc.

Regards,
GMB

My checklist (from Nikon USA):
Read directions and "About webcam utility" ???
Windows 10 64bit (32 bit not supported, other versions not even mentioned) ???
Using a USB cable X
D5500 is supported X
Nikon tested with your conferencing apps X

I just installed it on my PC with my D5300 with 1.03 version of the firmware and it worked right away on Zoom. I turned off the camera and I have the mirror image of Nikon Webcam Utility. I had the camera on, ready to go when I brought up Zoom, signed in and switched the camera from the PC to the D5300. This order MAY be important! The order when I use the Nikon WMU app on my Android is important!

Things to try: Blow out the ports that you plug the cable in to. Use a different USB to A/V out cable (that is what my cable is connected to), even if it has never been used. Try a different USB port on each PC. Test live mode on the camera and take a pic, not connected to the PC. Use an AF S lens if you have one, it should be totally compatible. Try a different lens to try to rule that issue out. Make sure the battery is fully charged. The memory card should be out of the loop, but not guaranteed.

If you get the Nikon Webcam Utility logo, the Nikon software should be working with the virtual meeting program. I think there is a connection issue. I looked in my menu, and didn't see anything for the A/V out, to turn on and off, maybe the D5500 is different.

Rob,

Thanks for the response. To address your various thoughts.
Checklist:
Read directions and "About webcam utility" Yes
Windows 10 64bit (32 bit not supported, other versions not even mentioned) Yes

Tried getting camera going and then trying virtual meeting s/w (Zoom, Teams)--no joy
Blew out both sides of USB connections (all 4)--no change
Tried another lens--no change
battery is fully charged
SD card is basically empty
I have rebooted computer several times along the way to no avail.
I've previously ordered another cable and am waiting for it to arrive. I'm suspicious of a connection issue too but I down load my pics to this laptop using this cable and the various USB ports without issue. Computer makes a noise when I connect and disconnect the cable also which indicates to me that it is recognizing camera/hookup to a degree.

Thanks for your time and suggestions. I'll keep working at this but am struggling to think of other options to try.

Regards

Well after trying lots of things, I finally got the s/w to work. And it does work well. Besides rebooting 437 times, these are the key things I did which seemed to help.

Removed Skype from my computer. I believe it is part of Windows 10 and I'm suspicious it was 'sucking up' my Nikon camera feed and thus no other virtual meeting s/w worked.
I changed my Autoplay setting for my Nikon D5500 from "do nothing" which I read somewhere might be a problem to "open Windows Explorer" when camera is attached
I deleted my D5500 camera driver and reinstalled it using the Device Manager.

I got it the WebCam Utility to work after the last change but I'm not sure some of the other steps weren't major influencers in my success.

Hope some of these suggestions help anyone else who is struggling to make this work.
