Data transfer speeds

I know that it seriously depends on your host computer, but I wondered about transfer speeds from the SD card housed in the D5500 versus those with a Card Reader. I have just tried the latter - took almost an hour to transfer 2.34 GB of JPG's and NEF's! I'm definitely not used to that slow a transfer. (and yeah, I used to use a 300 baud dial-up, so I am definitely spoiled with either!

2.3GB is a mighty hefty transfer so one part of me wants to say you're a glutton for punishment but, that aside, are you transferring over USB 3.0 or... What?

Assuming you are, is your card reader USB 3.0 compatible?

No, sadly, it is 2.0, not 3.0! USB, however, is, indeed 3.0, but I also want to maintani decent transfer rates with my Vaio laptop, which is at best 2.0. Mostly just advice, and I know that some 100 JPEG plus NEF is a lot. My wife thinks - probably correctly - that I should do more QC at the camera level, but it is tough, even with the large screen. Add on the prejudice that I may be able to make better decisions than the profile (hence the NEF's) and you do wind up with GB of storage!

I always use a card reader rather than transferring from the camera itself. Even with the laptop being USB 2.0, I still feel like you would have gotten better speeds with a card reader vs using the camera.

And I don't like to delete images on the camera itself, so I do all my QC on the computer too.
