DSC_0107.jpgMy photos generally look like they are drawn with warercolors or pastels to me.,,,? I have +7 in sharpness, and +1 in saturation. Is this all the better I can expect to get SOOC?

I'm with brent ... why is exposure comp up at +1? 1/500 at f/16 and ISO 360 for a 300mm lens sounds good, but seems like you're trying to brighten the image in camera by increasing the exposure comp. I'm not sure which lens you used to get to 300mm, but is there a reason why you're stopping it down to f/16?

Well the exposure is good, but you DO have the Exposure Compensation at +1EV. The bigger problem for me is that it looks like the focus was on the wing-tip, close to the lower left corner, while the birds head is out of focus. Overall, the shot also looks too contrast-y, at least at first glance. Let me play with it and see what I can do.

I do have a question or two... While I see this was taken at 300mm, what lens, specifically, were you using? Is this shot cropped? If so, how much?

Whoops... Almost forgot to ask what Camera Profile are you using (Standard, Vivid, Landscape, etc.)?

exposure comp is up to brighten photo. the shot before was especially dark on head. The lens was a 300mm, but not extended to full zoom. at a crop, it ended up at 300mm. i stopped down to f16 to get depth of field sharp enuf to include more image being in focus. good questions. thanks.. anything else?

Also, seems like most of the polling has marked "Settings are wrong"... could any of you tell me what they would have changed on settings for this shot? thanks for the help

I can tell you that you will get much better results if you will start doing some post processing. that and no need for the +1 EV

Also what mode are you shooting in? Manual or aperture priority?

Manual mode. I shot 1 shot, looked at it, and as it was a bit dark, so I added +1EV. I used f/16 to increase depth of field.
I know I need to do some post, but as these sites here degrades the quality down so far when you upload them, I didnt think it would make a difference. For most shots I simple use Picasa to do minor touchups. But on this photo, no post at all, just cropped.

Dont know what software you use but you could try this if you don't want to process many shots.

Download from Nikon View NX
Shoot raw but leave your jpeg settings in the camera
Download into View
You will then see the same images you see now as jpegs which if your ok with you can a reduced size straight from there for web ect.
If you not happy with one you can process the raw file.

Its difficult with that image but i would be checking my front/back focus as it looks a bit like you have some back focus in that shot.

What size image are you posting as you dont want the forum software reducing the file size your better to do it yourself,i go for 1000 pixels on the long side and between 100-250kb

Are you using the Histogram to determine if it is exposed correctly? Or just guessing by looking at it on the little camera screen?

Thanks. I have Nikon View nx, but havent used it much. Will use it "reduced size straight from there to web" that might help,
I have a d5500, and don't think the camera or any of my lenses allowfront/back focus adjustment. If I am wrong, let me know.
thanks again

I am not using the histogram while shooting. I ose it in photoshop for corrections, but on my camera, it displays the histogram, the photo and other info on the screen, and it is all to small.

Yes your right you cant adjust focus on your camera.

In View if you go to convert files at the top you get the box shown below, you can adjust file size ect and it will save the file you have selected, you do have basic edit facilitys in it but once you move onto the next file those adjustments become permernant on that file.
