hi!! nikonite newbie here

My Nikon D5500 has a problem and I'm getting pretty desperate
It's pretty new (like a month and a half actually) and it worked perfectly and record video, but after I switched out the original lens kit it came with (AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II) with another lens (50 mm f/1.8G), it won't record anymore. It still takes photos, just not video. While switching them, I accidentally let go of the lens release button. Maybe that's it? Maybe it damaged the lenses?
This isn't the first time it's happened. The first time I switched lenses, only the 50mm one wouldn't work, but after trying to put it on again (more carefully), it recorded video. Changing the lens made it work again. Now both lenses don't work at all with video huhu
I've tried changing the lens over and over, resetting the settings, and formatting the SD card but no such luck. Any tips on how to fix this?

Thank you!
Andie

This is a long shot, but I've seen it once or twice here on the forum. You mention accidentally releasing the lens button... That button only needs to be pressed once briefly as you are taking the lens off. If you happen to be holding that button down while installing the lens, you can actually turn the lens too far and have the contacts not mate well. If by chance you are doing that, don't do that. Let the lens just click into place.Other than that, I don't know. Tell us more, like if live view works as Scott mentioned. Or any other details about what works and what mode it works in while live view is not working?

Not sure what to tell you about correcting your video problem as I haven't done any video other than to see if it works (One of my two cameras only), but welcome to Nikonites. Try what has been said already and report back with any other details you can give.

I had this exact same problem last night at a school concert. I have no way to explain it. I had already shot three or four videos with my Nikon D 5500 which is 7 months old. Suddenly it just stopped working. Live view was working properly, but when I pressed the red button, it would not start recording video. Four months ago, I had used this camera to record 90 minutes of concert (each song a separate 4 minute file) with no issues. When it stopped working last night, I tried three different memory cards. I changed to a full battery. Of note, I was switching back and forth between my two Nikon Dx lenses. After the concert was over I switched lenses one more time and Video suddenly started working again.
It is working today, but I have no idea why...
By the way, the Nikon ME-1 microphone captures amazing sound, even from the other side of the school gym.
