Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.

I cannot help you because I have never played with the Nikon WiFi, but I am sure someone else can help you.

it is not designed to connect to your WiFI. It creates its own WiFI of which your phone can connect to it. Then you can use your phone to to see your camera and either take photo with it or download photos to your phone from the camera. You will need to have the app on your phone to connect. I have iPhone so can't guide your through the procedures with non-iPhone. Look for Nikon WMU app in your app store

Welcome, I use qDSLRdashboard. DslrDashboard | Controlling Nikon and Canon DSLR this is much better than Nikon WMU honestly.

The WMU works with the D5300, however saying that I haven't used it much. Only mainly to test it out to see if it would function and it did. It's been so long ago, I would have to play with it again to remember any details. Ha!

yes i disconnect from the normal wifi, then try to connect to the cameras network, i think the camera is not talking to the router hence the "authentification problem" it alays comes up with

Welcome to the forum. I have a D7200 I use the built in wifi occasionally. I find it works best when I am not home. When I am home the phone will drop the camera occasionally and go to the house network. The camera WiFi is not designed to connect to a network. It will let me connect my tablet or phone to the camera. I use a Samsung S7

There is no router involved, just your camera and phone. Think in terms of Bluetooth.

You also may discover that battery life takes a substantial hit if you use it much.

The camera is the WiFi connection for the phone to connect to directly. No router is involved. You can turn any routers off. All that is involved is the camera and the phone. Think of the camera as the router.

The camera does not connect to any router. The phone connects to the camera. This may be what you are saying but just want to make sure this is what you are trying to do.

on the phone in wifi and when you see the camera click on Forget connection and start over.

Does your camera have a screen under the wifi menu to reset network settings? My d7200 has it. Try that. I just got a new phone, so I am getting re-familiar with this tonight. No password was needed, the phone just connected to the camera's wifi without issue. It just comes up as an unsecured network and I connected. So maybe try the reset network connection menu in the camera if you have it on your camera.
