Raw images can't be loaded in Light room or view NX2 software

Hi guys Could you kindly help me out with something? I am using a Nikon D5500 with a Trascend 32 GB SD card and shooting in srgb format RAW, each file size being about 27 MB. Now, when I am transferring the files either using an inbuilt card reader in my dell laptop or using the USB cable provided by Nikon, the image files cannot be opened. In Adobe Lightroom it is saying that preview not available and could not read preview and in Nikon view NX2 file, it is saying the file cannot be loaded. However the previews of the play button in the camera is just fine! I also tried opening in Picasa, here initially it is giving yet right preview but then in a few seconds the image is changing to very dull and overexposed gray from initially being high contrast and vivid probably due to the auto adjust feature of picasa which cannot be disabled. For now, I cam transferring the images to my iPad via wifi and editing them there, but of course what I can see in my iPad is a compressed JPEG file and not RAW. Please help.

In LR the D5500 is not yet supported. I don't know about View NX-2 or Capture NX-D but one of both should be able to load them but you might need the latest version.

He needs Nikon soft that has been released after the D5500 was released else the soft doesn't know what to do with the D5500 RAW. Then he can convert them to TiFF and load those in LR.

If view NX does not do it (the last version should), he should get Capture NX-D. The latest versions have been released at the end of January and Capture for certain supports the D5500.

There's no guarantee the CD shipped with the cam contains the newest versions. They're saving pennies at Nikon.

ACR at this time does not support the D5500 and neither does Nikon's capture software, go figure.

To get your images into LR or Capture NXD:

Cut or copy from the SD card and paste to the folder of your choosing (these files will be NEF).
Open ViewNX2, select the new files in the folder of your choosing and do a conversion to TIF.
Place them in whichever folder you desire.

Now LR can import those TIF files for editing.
