D5300 LDC Sereen black/blank but can see backlight works

i there. This may be just a failed LCD screen but I'm in a remote place so am hoping there might be a button I accidentally pressed. I use the camera intermittently: it often sits for months between excursions when I use camera for several days in a row.

All was well on one excursion but then ldc screen didn't show display: it's black but the backlight is on, in other words, it gets power but shows nothing. Live mode doesn't show on screen either (so basically impossible to know what I'd be taking video)Takes pictures okay and I verified them by uploading to computer.

No trauma to the camera.

After arriving home from the last trip, the screen did inexplicably come on again and so I figured it was Murphy's Law and I'd pressed a button inadvertently (and fixed it I don't know how either). But now the screen is blank yet again.

1) Is this definitely a broken LCD screen that needs replacement? Any chance it could be something else?
2) One forum recommended a factory reset to see if an inadvertent button had been pressed, but who would I do that if I don't have screen menus available?

Thanks kindly!

Factory Reset: To restoring Nikon D5300 to its factory settings, just hold down the [Menu button] button and the [Information button] button together, until the control panel turns off briefly while the camera resets itself to the factory default settings.

Hi! Thanks for the instructions for factory reset. Sorry for delay: was in the field: remote, no internet. It did appear to reset (backlight turned off then on) but screen is still blank. :/
