Finally bought my Camera and Lenses

OK after extensive research and input from the experts (you guys) I finally purchased my first DSLR kit. I got the Nikon D5300 body, a 35 mm prime lens, 18-55 and 70-300 lenses both with VR..The lenses cost more than the camera body did. I considered getting the D5500 but it was nearly $300 more than the D5300 and, as a begining DSLR user, I think that the 5300 will do just fine, I wanted to put the money into good lenses. It will take about a week for everything to arrive. I am very excited about getting back into photography. Back in the Day, I had a pretty nice Olympus Maxxum 35mm and lenses but never really learned how to use it all that well. Now that I am retired I can really get into it.

My long-time girlfriend shoots with a D5300 and favors a 35mm prime (to the exclusion of pretty much everything else) and the quality of images she gets out that combination never cease to amaze me. I've often referred to the D5300 as a "wolf in sheep's clothing" based on having seen a lot of images out that camera. I don't know if it's the Sony sensors (though I suspect it is) or what but in my opinion you have chosen well.

If you fill out your profile and add the camera gear we can better answer any questions that you might have.
You can do that at http://nikonites.com/profile.php?do=editprofile

Under camera just put the model number like D5300; Once you put the first letter like D you will see a list of all the cameras in the database pop up. The more numbers you put in the smaller the list becomes. When you see your camera just click on it, Be sure to click on "Save Changes" in the lower right corner.

Thanks

Great beginnings.

We started out similarly with a D5100 which is my wife's favourite - she won't do without that marvelous swivel screen on any future camera.

Nice collection of lenses too - gives you a good range to work with and you can see just how nice a fast prime can be with that 35mm. That is the lens is is most often on our D5100.

Sounds like a great kit right there - congrats!!

Great way to start! You can't go wrong starting off with the right glass either!

Looking forward to seeing what you capture with that kit!

That's a good start. I started with the exact same setup sans the 35mm prime. I still have it and enjoy using the camera and lenses. Have fun with it.
