I'm now constantly getting ( in 2 different machines) windows has detected a problem with unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed)?

Ive narrowed it down to what i assume is a cable fault (although Ive no idea how the cable has failed as it never moves and is hardly used and doesn't look like the cats had it) Ive tried everything else updated the camera fw, got the new view nx, only thing i cannot try is a new cable because as per usual its not a universal cable but Nikon specific (grrrrr Nikon grrrr).
Only other option is a bad win 10 update on both machines, anyone else noticed anything?

Do you have a memory card reader you could try. I don't plug my camera directly in to my computers.

yep mem card works fine , as does a micro sd i have in an upscale adaptor which i used to install the new fw, i did recently purchase a new yongnuo 50mm lens this has coincided but would doubt it was that..

What operating system(s)? Windows 10 does forced updates. Could it be an update happened and somehow dropped your connection?

If it's two different systems then I would lean towards maybe updated firmware on the camera.

I updated fw because of the issue which had no effect, and yes it's win 10 x64 probably close to a month since I've plugged the camera into the pc where it worked fine, hopefully it's just the lead, or it looks like the new lens screwed something..

I prefer to NEVER plug my camera to my computer. I remove the card, copy files, look at them to make certain they are all there, then remove the card and reformat in the camera. I've been told this IS the way to go and so far the only time it failed was when my card reader failed.

I doubt seriously that the new lens screwed anything up. Most likely, it's either a driver issue with Windows 10, and USB port issue, or a cable issue. I would sort it out in that order. If you have a non-Win10 computer you can check with as Moab Man suggests, that would confirm that the cable and camera are good, and narrow it down to drivers or physical USB port(s) as the issue.

No none win10 system unfortunately, I doubt it's port issue (unless it's from an update) as it's the same issue in x2win10 machines, the same usb ports work fine with other usb devices including the sd card in the reader.
Im going to guess its the cat and the sync cable tbh but there's no obvious pesky bite marks if it's that..
