Using Self-Timer

I'm having issues getting the self-timer to work on my D5300. I know where the controls are located and how to set the delay timer, number of exposures to take, and have kept the Release mode at single. But when I get things set up and press the shutter release, all I get is a single exposure, not the 3 or so I had programmed for.

Can someone provide a step-by-step guide on how to set-up the self-timer to take multiple pictures. I look on the web and several reference guides to no avail.

Thanks

Jay

It has to be asked... Is the Mode Dial set to "Timer"?

Mode dial set to 'Timer'?" Where is that located? Just checked the manual and there is no mention of that as far as I can see.

My bad... I'm confusing my camera bodies.

You should only need to set things up in the "C3" section of the Custom Setting menu:

  • Self-Timer Delay: Choose a delay time of 2, 5, 10, or 20 seconds. The selected delay time appears with the Self-Timer symbol in the Information and Live View displays.
    .....
  • Number of Shots: Specify how many frames you want to capture with each press of the shutter button; the maximum is nine. When you record multiple frames, shots are taken at 4-second intervals.

My bad!! I tried something this morning and low and behold, I found the error of my ways. When I initiated the self-timer control by using the button on the camera body just below the lens release, I just left all the settings at default. What I didn't do was use the multi-selector to move the cursor to the self-timer mode and then pushed the shutter release.

I guess it pays to read everything more than once.

Thank all for the help.

Oh how many times have I done something like this only to discover it was something so very simple. Like the time I could not figure out why all my photos were so off in exposure do much. 1 would be underexposed, the next would be good and the next would be over exposed. I guess everyone has figured out my problem by now. LOL
