RocketCowboy's D5300 Pics

I've been finding a lot of inspiration with the various picture threads on squirrels, flowers, dragonflies, etc ... but figured it was time I start a thread for random images that I've shot that I don't know another thread to put them in. :)

Here's a few pics from this weekend's trip down to Austin, TX...

You have a very good set up. That 35/1.8 produces some great results.

I seem to be having a hard time composing/framing pictures with the fixed focal length lenses, but I realize I'm just too dependent on the zoom rather than positioning myself in the right place. Takes practice!

Charlie... Those are nice... Just a heads up...you appear to have -1/3 stop of exposure compensation set on all your images... and one or two of those could have used that extra exposure... you have to manually reset back to +-0 after using it... it appears you may have forgotten it's set?

Your D5300 has plenty of power to allow you to crop your photos without losing much sharpness. I like using my lens up close, but try standing back a little and then crop and frame in your post processing. Good luck!

Thanks and good catch! I had set it down on our vacation because some/most of the pics where coming out a little hotter than I wanted, but yeah noticed last night with the camera connected to the TV here in the hotel that several of these shots are looking a tad underexposed. Need to reset that back.

Thanks!

At this point with being new, I'm not doing anything in post processing and trying to get everything I can out of the camera at the time of shutter release. I know my computer tendencies, so don't want to start depending too much on fixing things in post and not getting a good shot to begin with. I think my questions for next week will be more on what/how to do the different tasks that get lumped into "post processing".

For the pics today, I switched over to P mode (rather than aperture priority where I had been shooting) and also started toying with some of the white balance and picture control presets to see how the camera reacted differently.

The first picture I've tried doing some edits in Aperture with. All my posts so far have just been using Aperture to pull the photo from the camera and convert raw to jpg.

A few pics from this week's trip to Little Rock Arkansas. Any feedback/critique/criticism is appreciated.

The sun was setting since I didn't get out until just before dinner. It gave me some interesting shadows to work with, depending on where I was on my walkabout...
