Re: Help!!!! D5300 or D7000???

If you're in D5300/D7000 territory I'd say neither and suggest the D7100 instead but, of the two camera's you've listed I'd suggest the D7000 over the D5300 and here's why...

With the D5300 you get built in WiFi and GPS but that's not something I would use a lot, personally, so that's not a big selling point for me on the '5300. I like the flip out screen and miss that from my '5100 days but I'm over it, so again, not a huge selling point on the '5300 for me. Waiting to see what the EXPEED 4 does but I'm not expecting miracles. Nice to have but not a huge consideration. 24MP is nice but not really a "must have".

The D7000, on the other hand, has features I personally care about like weather-sealing, an auto-focus motor, dual card-slots, a better viewfinder, better viewfinder coverage and longer battery life. Yes, it has less resolution but how big are your prints going to be? If you're not printing billboard sized prints 16MP is plenty. If I want WiFi and GPS that can be added with a $50 WU-1A adapter.

Step it up to the D7100, though, and you get the best of both worlds.

Re: Help!!!! D5300 or D7000???

Seems the link you provided weighs out the Pros and Cons in a very "in-detail" comparison, so what matters now is what YOU value more.

Plus, we don't know what you're wanting to shoot, where you're wanting to shoot, how often you're wanting to shoot or any of your personal preferences. Maybe post a little more info?

The two factors that would make it a tough choice for each one for me would be: The 5300 has a higher frame rate for video, and a fold out multi-angle LCD screen. Both quite admirable features, but...

The 7000 is weather sealed (reason 1, no panic if I'm out and about) and takes a LOT more pictures per battery charge, plus offers dual memory card slots (so reason 2 is it does more with less swapping/effort). As a side bonus: The internal focus makes it compatible with quite a few more lenses too.

Since I'm not shooting video, the 7000 wins, but as suggested above, if you've got the funds, I'd say the D7100 would make it an even BETTER choice.

Having said that, I'm still shooting on my trusty D3100, and will be for quite some time as I'll have to squirrel away the funds for a while before upgrading. Whichever one ya buy, enjoy it and share some shots!

That's a difficult choice. Better controls of the D7000 vs newer tech of the D5300, I would be torn and get a D7100 if I wanted a Dx camera.

You really need to compare the D5300 and the D7100. They use the same sensor. Main differences are number of focus points and control layout. The flipout screen and the built in WiFI and GPS are the two big pluses for the D5300. There are also some other differences such as 1/4000 (on the D5300) vs 1/8000 (on the D7100) for minimum shutter speed.

Re: Help!!!! D5300 or D7000???

Of your choices, I would go with the d7000, but consider the d7100 and its an even easier choice to pick the d7100 over the d5300. And you can buy the d7100 today.
You are comparing a very modern sensor (d5300) with a camera with more pro-like controls (d7000), so its a toss up depending what you want more. Both will take great pictures with your help. I would go with either of the d7x00 for the user interface. If you are looking to advance, thats the way to go. Two command wheels and more buttons for direct access to most needed functions. The top lcd panel is important too. Just a quick glance and you know what state your camera is in. Internal focus motor for support of older lenses too. Many other important differences too. More menu work on the d5x00. Search out some threads here on d5200 vs d7000 for more details.
If you really don't want to mess so much with settings, go with the d5300, but you mention pro leanings, so d7xoo is better for quick setting changes and more lens choices.

Of your two choices, I'd go with the D7000. However, as mentioned in the above posts, why not go for the D7100 and get the best of both? Just makes sense to me.

Re: Help!!!! D5300 or D7000???

<D7100

Here is where I'm torn between your two choices.

D7000 has ease of use through direct controls, dual cards, bit heftier construction, and you can use pretty much use any Nikon lens.

D5300 has the greater pixels for large prints (I print large so it matters to me but in reality most never will). Most of all, the D5300 has done away with the AA filter like the D7100 making for sharper images and may even be the same sensor as the D7100. Limited to AF-S lenses.

The D5300 should give sharper images, the D7000 will give you ease of control. Between the two, and your aspirations of becoming a semi-pro... go for the D7100.

Re: Help!!!! D5300 or D7000???

Kumar, whatever you read on this and other websites, I suggest you get into a store and handle both cameras. Measurements and Megapixels are only one part of the relationship you will develop with the camera YOU will choose. I can understand you don't want to take the wrong decision, but... letting others decide for you is NOT the right way to go.

If I had to make that decision, I'd go with the 7100. If money is limited, I'd go with a used D90 or D200. You haven't told us what type of pictures you want to do and if video is can be an important part of your future business. Talking about business, I hope you don't think you can start a part time business just because you've bought a great camera. You first have to understand basics of photography, basic exposure iso aperture relationships.

Good luck

Re: Help!!!! D5300 or D7000???

Sorry this does not fit your choices, but I would save longer or put off one of the lenses and get a D7100. Just get one zoom and one prime, you'll be surprised what you can do with just two good lenses. When I went Fx, I had only the 50mm 1.8, best move I ever made.

I have the D5100 now and not even looking at the D5300 I'm going straight to the D7100 next year I like the controls over the D5100/D5300 too much is menu driven in those

I have the D7100 and have never looked back. Just cause the d5300 is newer the d7100 is a much better camera. And you will be glad you went that way .

Depending on the lens/lenses you get to go with it, I'm sure with practice you would get some great shots with either. Personally I would go with the D7000(I own one) as it is considered a semi-pro body. I've read a number or pro shooters who have used the D7K or have it as their back up camera and it is an absolute bargain these days. Just remember, the DX vs FX body argument aside, either of these cameras will have features and abilities well beyond most pro cameras from 10 years ago. As for getting a D7100, never shot with one but I've also never read anything or seen any photo's taken by one to convince me it is worth the extra dough over a D7000.

I just got my D5100 today but a part of me wishes I got the D7000 instead or even the D7100 instead and got extra lenses latter. I have only been playing with my camera an hour and while I'm a complete newbie to DSRL I can see how the handling and controls of the 7000/7100 are a lot better with the dual wheels and top LCD. I bought a DSLR to shoot in Manual mode not ''auto''.
