It's a Mystery

Recently I purchased a D5200 and am enjoying it a great deal. Learning the ins and outs will be a process and hopefully this forum will aid my progress. One thing that is puzzling me is that I cannot figure out what a certain icon refers to. I am speaking of the symbol at Shooting Menu/Set Picture Control/detail settings ie. Sharpness, contrast, etc. The icon is at the very top right hand corner of the camera screen and is the shape of two small 'waist up' human figures with a letter next to it. I have seen the letter depicted as an "A", but on my camera it is an "N". I have looked at the manual symbol list several times, searched the web, etc., but have had no luck determining what it means.

If anyone out there can shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Second try at replying to this thread. First one didn't seem to go through.

In any case, the icon in question relates to the status of 'Active D - Lighting' which can be adjusted by using the Info button. Apparently, Nikon included the symbol in the 3200 manual, but not in the 5200, perhaps they wanted to see if we were paying attention (kidding).

In any case, thanks for all your input, it put me on the right track.

Well, do see bottom of page 91 of the D5200 "Reference Manual", which is much more complete than the "User Manual". It shows to be where you show it. Active D on page 69 makes no mention of it.

Hi Wayne. I think if one looks closely at the image on pg 91 you will see that the 'mystery icon' is actually below the line with the words Vivid -02 on it, and to the far right on that same line is a circled V1. Below the V1 is the icon in question leading one to the conclusion that it is something separate.

On page 69 however, under Active D-Lighting the icon is clearly shown with the letter A (for Auto) next to it. On my camera the letter N (for Normal), not A was visible. I went to the 'info' screen highlighted Active D lighting and changed it from Normal to Auto. Now, in the shooting menu/set picture control, the icon appears as an A. So, mystery solved.

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.
