Bracketing won't work...

yeah I know, it's always something. Well at least I learned from my flash problem what I should be checking for first before coming here and taking up your time. I have much gratitude for all the responses I got for that. You're a great bunch of guys and gals.
This time it's bracketing. As per manual:
1 Choose a bracketing option. After pressing G to display the menus, highlight Custom Setting e2 (Auto bracketing set) and press 2.
The options shown at right will be displayed. Highlight the desired bracketing type and press J.
2 Place the cursor in the information display. If shooting information is not displayed in the monitor, press the i button. Press the
i button again to place the cursor in the information display.
Option Description AE bracketing
Vary exposure over a series of three photographs.
Shot 1: unmodified Shot 2: exposure reduced Shot 3: exposure increased

WB
bracketing
Each time the shutter is released, the camera creates three images, each with a
different white balance. Not available with image qualities of NEF (RAW).

ADL
bracketing
Take one photo with Active D-Lighting off, and another at the current Active
D-Lighting setting.

Well that didn't transfer at all well. Just trust that I followed the manual to the letter, and when I shot it just took one exposure. So I re-read and re-tried and re-read and re-tried, with the same results. I'm old and grouchy, especially with the wife being ill and this kind of stuff p***es me o**. I just want things to work right, the way it says it's suppose to work. And Oh yeah I tried it in P,S,A and M. In the custom setting menu I set it at AE bracketing. (Auto bracketing set) Then I went to the monitor menu and scrolled to BKT menu item and set it at AE1.0 and hit OK. So should work right. I tried it with RAW on and off. I prefer raw for this. ISO 200 shutter 1/125 at f7.1 Do you need any more info? Thanks, Jack

Do you have your camera set to continuous shutter release? I don't know where that would be on the D5200, but it should be marked CL or CH.

Thank you that was it. The video didn't mention it but I checked everything he suggested and then went to shutter release mode and set it at L and if you hold down the shutter release you get your 3 brackets. thanks much

You can also use self-timer mode (e.g. 2sec timer) with the bracketing, it should take three pictures automatically. This way it's easier to keep the camera steady when taking the pictures (compared to the situation where you need the hold down the shutter manually).

Hey, good idea. Thank you

I tried exposure bracketing on my D5100 and everything appeared to be set correctly, but the camera took only one shot. Bracketing should yield three shots with one press of the shutter button, right? Thank you.

No, it takes three shutter actuations. At least that is how my 5300 works. When I first tried it I thought that one push of the shutter release would do the three, but it doesn't. It took three separate button pushes. I didn't try with a timer however as has been suggested in a previous post here.

AhHA! Thanks very much Walt. I did have things set correctly after all -- I just wasn't clear on what to expect. I was on the right track, but didn't know it. Again, thanks!

I did the same as you almost to the letter. Ha! That's how I learned.
