I got a medium priced set of tubes off ebay OK not great but nor is my budget!
There the better type with auto focus and aperture connections
First got the nothing worked and the camera said lens not connected
After lots of flafffling and no help from the useless seller I sussed it
Opposite the lens realise button there is another little "catch@ not sure what it purports is, the kit lens and my 55-300 don't toutch it but the tubes do ! It was stiff and the tubes would not rotate enough to lock having worked it now all is well
And I feel a fool :peach:

Anyone tell me what this little catch dose

I believe it is a tab that tells an older body what the aperture of the lens is set to.

Thanks for that I sort of guessed it was somthing to do with older lens compatibility as my lens don't go near it hence why it was initially very stiff

Thanks

If the tubes have no electrical contacts, then the camera will display "no lense attached". You then have to set the mode button on M and shoot manually.

I would always go for "Automatic" extension tubes, which have contacts, hence AF and metering will be possible. The Polaroid are around $75, while the Kenko are around $175.

As the extension tubes are just metal tubes with contacts, as long as they are sturdy and properly machined, it is fine.

Yes there tubes are the full type electrical and mechanical pass though the problem was that they were not seating correctly as one of the mechanical links to the camera was stiff as it not used on the lens I have
Now sorted and I will be working on my technique
Focus is defiantly not easy and depth of field small A great challenge I will enjoy
