bracketing HELPPPPP!!!! d5200 , so frustrated. i even called nikon and they were not much help. I know that the 5200 will shot a burst of three shots in auto bracketing mode. -2 0 and +2 . i have watched it done on you tube for both the 5200 and 5100.I just bought a 5200 last night and have been working all night and most of the day trying to get my 5200 to do it . i set the bracketing to like i said +2 0 -2 and set continuous release mode to either low or high and only one shot is taken. it will bracket but you have to push the release button each time. what gives?? I have tried in jpeg and raw no difference can anyone help???

thanks Art

So you are in continuous? Then maybe you have the flash popped up. Continuous mode won't work with the flash.

Thanks guys ok yes continuos release mode set to either high or low, no go. Now the flash as you know has a mind of its own. But it is not up, I will try to disable it and see if that works.
I know it must be some stupid setting somewhere. I have even rest all option multiple times.

I don't have a D5200, but I suspect using a flash may be your issue as there is the ability to exposure bracket on both the camera and (at least I think) the flash. I never bracket with the flash, heck I hardly ever use flash. Exposure bracketing is done without flash and will vary your shutter speed with a constant aperture, and should fire 3 and stop in continuous mode. Flash bracketing? Someone else will need to explain that. LOL Either way, the flash's need to recharge will likely complicate the speed in which continuous mode normally operates.

It does have a mind of it's own in auto and scene modes. Try your bracketing burst in shutter, aperture, or p mode with the flash down. Or the no flash auto mode on the dial. I don't have a d5x00 to try this on.

Thanks for all the input! Mostly all things I have tried. I like to shoot in A aperture priority, so the flash should not pop up unless I tell it too. Shooting bracketing with flash no doubt will have an effect on shutter speed and might mess with the bracketing like BDH said. Also any "auto" other than the shutter will want change settings of the individual bracketed shots, like WB and aperture so the pictures will not really be identical. the only thing I want to change is the light exposure. As for the manuel no help there other than telling you where the setting is. And Nikon couldn't even figure it out. Thing is I have seen it done on youtube on both the 5100 and the 5200. So I know it will shoot the burst Of three bracketed shots, Go figure! I will conquer this!! But I will need HELP! Thanks guys

Can you hold the shutter button down and shoot continuously without bracketing turned on? That brings me to what may be obvious, but are you are holding the shutter button down for all 3 shots? It's not one short press and all 3 fire off, you need to hold it for the duration. Or I think you can use the self timer if you need one press. I'm out of ideas.

Got it ! you were right I was not holding down shutter down long enough. The 5200 is a little sluggish it takes a little while for the second and third to fire. But It will yes fire all three brackets.first select bracketing from info menu then You have select from the shutter release button on top to slow or fast continuos . But If you select the self timer it will wait and then fire off all three by itself .but you do have to reset the self timer every time or it defaults back to slow continuos. Pretty sweet so if your on a tripod for a long exposure times no worries moving or shacking camera pushing shutter release. Thanks for all your help guys, it works great! Phew glad we got that figured out.

I believe uou can get 3-4 quick shots off in continuous with the pop up flash, but turned all the way down to 1/32 power.

I don't have a d5200 to test, but the user manual, page 30, says it will not work:

Continuous Release Modes
Continuous release modes can not be used with the built-in flash; rotate the mode dial to [no flash]
(p21) or turn the flash off (p45–47). For information on the number of photographs that
can be taken in a single burst, see page 241.

I don't think my d7x00 will do that either with the pop up. It wasn't the OP's problem anyway, he wasn't holding the button down.

Just tested this out real quick. You can't use continuous shot with the shutter button on camera but it works with my remote from amazon :)

Hi Art. I did the same thing you did: watch youtube tutorials on bracketing. I also read the D5200 Manual. From what I learned, you hold the shutter-release button until the camera shoots 3 bursts. It worked. I thought I only needed to push once. I hope this helps.
