Monopod suggestion for D5100 with Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 lens.

I have the D5100 and have just recently bought the Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 lens. The camera is a little front heavy now and I am afraid of using just any monopod with it for fear of it straining the mounting screw on the bottom and breaking. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good monopod which will go up to at least 65' inches and relatively light weight?
Also, since the lens doesn't have a mount (like on the 70-200 f2.8) lens that allows it to go vertically easily, what would be the best way to have a monopod that allowed me to shoot pics either horizontally or vertically and still use a monopod?
Thank you.

Yup, all good advice from all the above. I have two monos.....one Manfrotto and one Benro. Both have ball type heads on them.

I've never used a monopod and I guess I can see needing something to help with vertical shots, but why would one need a ball head? Can't you just pivot the monopod around?
