Need help! Info menus issue

I was unable to determine which model of camera you are having problems with so I am unable to offer any advice.

This could be a big problem for you, so this is very important that you pay close attention to the following procedure or things could go very bad for you. First off, you should immediately find the box your camera came in and move it to an area with room on both sides. Carefully look thru the contents of this box, remove the CD disc and warranty papers and place them next to the box and continue until you find a large rectangular object. This rectangular object will be white in color and will have many pages attached to it. It will also have words on the front cover of the object written in black ink that will spell the words "Users Manual". This is the key to your issue.....

Once you have this rectangular object in hand, look for the section on matrix metering. You will see your little box with circle in it. In fact, you'll find many items in your camera's menu are not written in English or Japanese but rather are symbols of the item so as to cross the language barrier.

Well I'm not home, actually driving there now. I was picking my d5100 up from getting the lens repaired. I figured it was a language issue. I attempted changing it. But nada, and it's not the full menu it's only the set focus matrix metering and the flash level.

The D5100 --- now maybe we can help. :)

First make sure your battery is charged and make sure your card is inserted correctly and formatted in the camera.

To do a full reset hold the Menu button and the Info button in at the same time for a few seconds and it will reset.

Make sure you have the latest version of firmware (info here-->
D5100 firmware: A: 1.0.1 / B:1.01 upgrade

Speaking of updates. If my D5100 has been registered, do I get a firmware update notifications by email? Is that information in the White rectangular object with writing in black ink on it?
