Do you routinely use desiccant in your camera bag?

I live in a high humidity area especially in the summer months. How many of you keep the little container of desiccant in your camera bags? Anyone have a good source for the appropriate size desiccant for a camera bag?

During the build up we regularly get high humidity but I have never heard of this product so I too am interested in hearing what other have to say.

Every once in a while when you buy an electronic gadget it comes with a small bag of desiccant that's there to help keep the moisture from getting into the equipment. I'm sure you see it and wondered what it was for. I would imagine it would be best to use it with a camera. I use desiccant with my rifle scope when I've been out in the rain or high humidity while hunting. Moisture will find its way into anything that isn't hermetically sealed.

I ALWAYS use desiccant with my photo gear! You can even pick some up at your drug store. Ask your pharmacist for a few of those little sachets they put in some pill bottles.

You can get different grades of silica gel, so best to ask for something suited to electronics then say keep your shoes dry.

I know this is an old post but wanted to ffer another option.
I just picked up an 8lb bag of Silica Cat Litter (Amazon.com: Amazing Cat Litter - 8 lbs.: Pet Supplies)

$18 for 8lbs (3.6kg)

It is 100% silica pellets (No additional additives) and is 'rechargeable' similar to before mentioned options.

I've simply created my own dessicant packs using staples and Coffee filters.

Does everyone need 8 LBS of this? More than likely not. I, however, found it cheaper than buying some of the other options especially when I am using them for Firearm safes, other optics and electronics. Depending on your gear & humidity... you could make a sizeable packet for each item.

Just wanted to offer another thought/option.

That's a great idea! I wasn't aware that kitty litter was good for that.
