This was the first shot with my new 70-300mm VR lens with automatic focus. Taken today on a very foggy morning. The train was approximately 50 yards from camera. It's not the best but it's a start. Must have been the fog.

I probably should have been using my tripod. That shot was from my pickup window while sitting in a parking lot. I see what you mean now that I look at a few reference lines like the Black fence.

I might add that I was sitting in the drivers seat of my pickup in a parking lot when I took the picture. I'll remember to take my triod with me from now on. The new 70-300mm lens is a little heavy.

Edit on 09/17/12:
I also just discovered that I had installed a UV filter on my lens before taking the picture. I was looking for my UV filter and I found it on the lens this morning, right where I had put it. Imagine that!

As your experience grows and your lens collection moves ever closer to f2.8 you'll look back fondly at the lightweight 70-300 travel lens :)

Nice shot I just got a 70-300mm lens not long ago and have yet to take any significant shots with it, have been house bound for the last 2 months and am going to be getting out soon and starting to shoot again.
