Took Some Train Yard Photos

I went out walking around in the train yard here in town and found a really neat water tower and thought I would try to do some editing/framing in photoshop. I think it turned out pretty neat.

One of the wierd trains that was there, it was in like a shrink wrap or something. Very strange. I did some editing on it too so any feedback on that would be appreciated. Maybe what else could be done and so on. Thanks

I didn't actually go there to shoot the trains I went to shoot the buildings and whatever else interesting I could find. I pass over a train bridge everyday so I already know the schedule so I think I will go camp out by the bridge and get some cool shots. Thanks.

Overpasses make great vantage points! Shot this one a while ago,

Cool Rick! C curves S curves great leading lines. Lots of things to play with!

Thanks Jeff. I have to admit, I got very lucky. The train actually stopped to hook up more cars which gave me time to run my ass off up the bridge to get the shots. Was able to bracket three shots before it moved again.

Everythings works pretty good in that shot. I like the sort of static tension produced by all the horizontals (ties) in relation to the rails. Neat that the train is stopped yet it looks like it is about to go full steam ahead.

The shrink-wrapped locomotive has BNSF markings, but a Santa Fe "warbonnet" paint scheme is on the nose. My guess is it's a "retro" paint job not yet revealed. Norfolk Southern recently did half a dozen or so like this, so it's definitely a railroad "thing" going on. Hope you can catch it when the wrap comes off. BTW - there is a pretty big market for railroad photos and artwork - I've bought a few myself. Just be careful not to trespass - and always remember safety first around trains.

Yes, I try to get in and out fast when I shoot without hanging around. The 70-300 comes in handy, but it's hard to resist a nice close up wide shot! Generally if I stay back 10-20 feet from the track, they don't mind. If I cross over tracks into a yard They get annoyed and rightfully so (I don't do that anymore).

Yeah something crazy that happened to me when I was shooting at the train yard, when I was shooting at the building with the BNSF train in front of it some men came out and asked me to politely leave that I was tresspassing. I agreed to leave but not after I stated that fact that I was behind the fence and was not harming anyone. They became annoyed so I just agreed to leave. So yeah kind of strange. Here is a pic of the sign in front of the yard. HMMMMMM!!!!

I think there is a lot of safety training, awareness and responsibility in what they do. We are somewhat invading their workspace and create a hazard which they do not want on their watch or to be responsible for. I was shooting this morning and ask to leave in a very unpleasent manor, ultimately it's our well being they are concerned about. I just apologized and thanked them as I left.

Actually, if they really wanted to be mean, they would just call the cops and I would have been ticketed and end up paying a hefty fine.
