Nikon D5100 Screen turning off after a few seconds

Hi Guys,

I've recently purchased my Nikon D5100 & was hoping some you who have more experience with the camera help me out with something ....

I've noticed that the LCD display goes to sleep or 'off' after about 15-20 secs of inactivity . I either have to half press the shutter button or press the info button to wake it back up

Is this behavior normal & a way of conserving battery ? Or is a a software bug in my unit ? Can this diplay timeout be adjusted (i could not find any settings related to this in the manual or menus)

Eagerly awaiting your inputs pls !

I do beleive that EVERY Nikon camera has this function, even a D300... oh the horror! It is easly adjusted - on the D300 as well - and is a feature to conserve battery life. Also, you don't want a bright LCD screen shining in your face when you put your eye to the viewfinder. Hope you got it sorted.

Thanks a lot for your reply guys ! And spl thanks to @Nikon Photographer @D5100Shooter you were right ! it was indeed the C2 setting under the custom menu settings ..would have never figured that out !!

I am very greatful for your help! :)

I personally keep my screen off as much as possible and shot a whole airshow day with the screen facing in as it saves battery, all the info is displayed in the viewfinder anyway, but that's my preference.

Suggest you take some time to read the manual...
even if not in detail, at least to know all the available options & possibilities

Is there any way to disable timeout entirely? Trying to use a d3400 for live stream with wirecast so I need it to stay on for 2-3 hours straight and it is out of reach on the tripod

Edit: whoops wrong topic. Sorry in a panic
