Footage too dark?

I just started filming with my Nikon D5100, and the footage is coming out kind of dark on a sunny day. I'm using the ISO set to automatic, should I be manually adjusting it all the time? And what other ways are there to get brighter footage?

Thanks.

Maybe you will find the answer in your manual...If its dark it's under exposed with still photography...

It's hard to answer your question as two thirds of what you've tried is missing. It sounds to me like you are very new at photography and don't understand the three things that are part of the equation that leads to correctly exposed photos.

If that site doesn't help you understand ISO, aperture and shutter speed, then make a search on "exposure triangle" until you find one that does.

Keep shooting and welcome to the forum.

What lens are you using? Are you shooting in Auto mode? Are you FILMING or taking still shots? Are you using ADL if you're shooting stills? JPG or RAW?
Too many questions are unanswered in your original post making difficult make proper diagnosis of problematic problem!
